With a battery capacity of 39,2 kWh, the basic version drives you up to 186 miles on a single charge with the motor delivering 99 kW and an energy consumption as low as 14.8 kWh/100 km (internal target under WLTP regulations). Both powertrain versions deliver 395 Nm of immediate torque, offering the driver of Kona Electric great fun-to-drive, having the full power available from the first second, providing a maximum speed of 167 km/h. The shift-by-wire gear control system enables operation of the car simply by pressing buttons to switch driving modes. It also eliminates the routing space required for housing the mechanical linkages between a normal shifter and the transmission, providing additional storage space in the front of the car. The fully-electric subcompact SUV made by Hyundai also features an electronic parking brake (EPB) at the command of the driver’s fingertips. Charging the lithium-ion polymer battery up to 80% only takes about 54 minutes using a 100 kW direct current (DC) fast charger. With the 7,2 kW on-board-charger, charging with alternating current (AC) takes 9 hours 40 minutes for the long-range battery pack and 6 hours 10 minutes for the shorter-range battery pack. Drivers also have the option of charging their car at a compatible regular household power socket using the ICCB-cable (in-cable control box). The charging port is located in the vehicle’s front next to the Hyundai logo. Connected and Caring To suit customer’s varied lifestyles, the All-New Kona Electric contains advanced connectivity and navigation features. To enhance seamless integration of the driver’s smartphone, making operation more intuitive and safe while driving, the car is equipped with the Display Audio system, which is available with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and Bluetooth connectivity. This way, users can control their music, telephone or navigation functions on the seven-inch capacitive colour LCD touchscreen, while remaining focused on the road. The Display Audio system also includes a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines. Additionally, the seven-inch information screen is located in the centre of the instrument cluster between the two dials – a standard for Kona Electric. Customers also have the option to choose the eight-inch navigation system, offering the same connectivity features with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™ and Bluetooth. In addition, it includes a free seven-year subscription to LIVE services, offering updated information in real time about weather, traffic and speed cameras (where legally allowed), plus online searches for points of interest. The navigation system also features 3D maps and Hyundai’s unique Lifetime MapcareTM** with free annual map and software updates included. To enhance vehicle operation, the system includes a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines. **Lifetime MapCare™ is the commercial term for Hyundai’s subscription to the MapCare™ programme, with which annual map updates are assured for eligible Hyundai vehicles for a minimum period of ten years after the model’s end of production. Wireless inductive charging To ensure that occupants’ phones are always charged, the All-New Kona Electric also provides a wireless inductive charging pad (Qi standard) for mobile phones. The phone’s charging status is visualised with a small indicator lamp above. To ensure that the phone will not be forgotten inside the car, the central display in the instrument cluster shows a reminder when switching off the car. For further connection of devices, the All-New Kona Electric comes standard with a USB port and an AUX jack. High-end sound system by Krell Today’s customers like to listen to their favourite soundtrack in their car, for this reason the All-New Kona Electric offers a high-end sound system by audio manufacturer Krell, featuring eight speakers including two 20 mm tweeters, four 160 mm woofer speakers, one 100 mm centre speaker and a 200 mm subwoofer speaker. The eight-channel amplifier delivers 45 W per channel to maximise the audio experience inside the car. Hyundai SmartSense: Highest level of active safety The All-New Kona Electric features Hyundai SmartSense active safety and driving assistance technologies, to comply with the highest European safety standards: Cruise Control - Smart Adaptive Speed Control with Stop & Go function, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist,, Blind-Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Driver Attention Warning and Speed Limit Information Function. Cruise Control – Smart Adaptive Speed Control with Stop & Go Using front radar sensors, Smart Adaptive Speed Control with Stop & Go keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking. If traffic comes to a halt, the Stop & Go system applies the brake until the car comes to a standstill and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear. If the vehicle stops for longer than three seconds, the driver has to activate the system again with the steering wheel controls or by briefly pressing the accelerator pedal. The system operates from 0 to 180 km/h. Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection The All-New Kona Electric is fitted with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian Detection, an advanced active safety feature that alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking automatically if required. Using front radar and camera sensors, AEB operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger level, and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The system is activated when a vehicle or pedestrian is sensed in front of the car, operating at speeds of 8 km/h or above. Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist (LKAS) The Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keeping Assist alerts the driver in unsafe movements at over 60 km/h by sensing the car’s position. The Lane Departure Warning System sounds an alarm before the car moves over white, grey and blue lines as well as cats eyes on the road, while the Lane Keep Assist warns the driver acoustically and visually before inducing corrective steering to guide the driver back to a safe position. Lane Following Assist (LFA) The system assists the driver to keep the centre of the lane by controlling the steering. It works from a standstill up to speeds of 150 kilometres per hour on both highways and inter-urban roads. Blind-Spot Detection (BSD) Also using radar, the Blind-Spot Detection (BCD) monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. If the driver then activates the indicators, an audible signal is emitted. This also applies to lane change situations in which a vehicle is detected. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) Using the rear corner radar, the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW) reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility. Using radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle for approaching cross traffic, RCCW alerts the driver visually and audibly. Driver Attention Warning (DAW) The Driver Attention Warning (DAW) raises safety and convenience to an entirely new level by continuously monitoring and analysing driving patterns through data inputs, such as the steering angle, steering torque and vehicle position in the traffic lane. When a pattern of fatigue/distraction is identified, DAW gets the driver’s attention with an audible alert and pop-up message suggesting a break. Speed Limit Information Function The Speed Limit Information Function uses the front camera and information from the navigation system to identify road speed signs and displays the speed limit in real time. The information is displayed in both the navigation system display and the TFT cluster. High Beam Assist The headlamps are available with state-of-the-art LED technology, pairing daylight-like illumination with a long lifetime and significantly lower energy consumption than halogen lights. When switched to automatic mode, High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night, and changes to low-beam as appropriate, reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected, the system automatically reactivates the high beam. The static cornering lights turns additional cornering lamps on and off according to the vehicle speed and steering angle. Highest Passive Safety The All-New Kona Electric benefits from superior rigidity through the application of high strength steel, high impact energy absorption and minimised distortion, in order to protect passengers in the event of a collision. Thanks to an enlarged area for the appliance of hot stamping and a ring-shaped cabin shell structure with ultra-high-strength steel, the safety zone has been enlarged for top crashworthiness. The multiload-pass structure of the cabin disperses energy in various directions in the event of a collision and reduces the impact. Around the interior of the Kona Electric a total of six airbags are installed (two front airbags, two side airbags and two curtain airbags from first to second row, protecting both driver and passengers). HYUNDAI IONIQ NAMED UK?S BEST HYBRID

Hyundai Motor scooped another top accolade at the 2018 What Car? Awards. The IONIQ Hybrid was named as the UK’s ‘Best Hybrid’, while the high-performance i30 N was commended as the ‘Best Hot Hatch for £20,000-£30,000’. The awards, judged by members of the What Car? road-test and editorial team, praised the IONIQ Hybrid for its cost, equipment and driveability and the all-round performance capability of the i30N. Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car? said, "In the last year, we've seen a huge increase in the number of people reading about hybrid cars on whatcar.com, which is why we felt it was important to recognise the best models in the class. Toyota may have had the market for affordable hybrids pretty much sewn up with the Prius but now there’s a top-notch alternative in the shape of Hyundai’s IONIQ. More than any other car, the IONIQ shows that you can now drive a hybrid without having to accept any compromises. Not only is it clean, temptingly priced and cheap to run, but it's more practical, better equipped and better to drive than its rivals. " Hyundai’s all-new i30 N high-performance hatchback was acknowledged as the Best Hot Hatch for £20,000-£30,000, with the What Car? team praising both the i30N and the i30N Performance’s cornering talents, playful handling, and accessible prices. Both models feature electronically controlled suspension, torque vectoring, launch control and rev-matching as standard. What Car? Editor, Steve Huntingford, said: “If you had told us a year ago that Hyundai would soon have one of the world’s best hot hatches in its ranks, we’d have been dubious to say the least. But the Korean brand really has gone from zero to hero, bettering established rivals such as the Focus ST and the Volkswagen Golf GTI with its first serious attempt at building a car in this class.” Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor UK, said, “We are hugely proud to see the IONIQ take top honours as the UK’s Best Hybrid. The IONIQ is representative of the shift that is currently taking place in the car market where consumers are now embracing low emission alternatives. The IONIQ which is available in Hybrid, Plug-In and Electric versions means that we are able to offer even greater choice for our customers.  “The i30 N is also another good example of offering choice – it is our first hot hatch and its all-round package of style, equipment, price and state-of-the art high performance technologies make it a fast and fun alternative to the more established names.” The IONIQ and i30 N both come with Hyundai’s industry-leading five-year unlimited mileage warranty and roadside assistance package. Standard equipment also includes the latest active safety features, such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Intelligent Speed Limit Warning.

HYUNDAI MOTOR’S NEXT-GEN FUEL CELL SUV PROMISES RANGE AND STYLE

Hyundai Motor has offered an early glimpse of its next generation fuel cell vehicle, well ahead of the hydrogen-powered SUV’s official launch early next year. At a special preview event held in Seoul, the near-production-ready version exhibited its impressive capabilities while revealing its futuristic design. The yet-to-be-named model embodies Hyundai Motor’s commitment to a new era for advanced eco-friendly vehicle development.  Fourth generation fuel cell systemThe new SUV shown at the special event previews Hyundai Motor’s second commercially produced hydrogen model and uses the company’s fourth generation of hydrogen fuel cell technology. The vehicle, its capabilities and fuel cell technologies are an evolution of Hyundai Motor’s global research, development and real-world evaluation programs. The new vehicle reinforces the company’s leadership in fuel cell-based electric-powertrain systems, created with expertise honed through the world’s first commercial production of a fuel cell vehicle in 2013.  The new fuel cell model was developed on four key pillars that focus on fuel cell system efficiency, performance (maximum output), durability, and tank storage density.  Fuel cell system efficiency: By enhancing fuel cell performance, reducing hydrogen consumption, and optimizing key components, the vehicle’s efficiency is greatly improved compared to its predecessor, the ix35 Fuel Cell (Tucson Fuel Cell in some markets). The new SUV boasts an efficiency level of 60%, or a 9% increase from the ix35’s 55.3%. With enhanced system efficiency, the new model targets a driving range of 800km on a single charge (based on New European Driving Cycle standards). Performance (maximum output): The new model’s maximum output is enhanced by 20% compared to its predecessor, boasting an impressive 163PS of power. The fuel cell SUV also improves the car’s cold start capability, overcoming the challenges of starting fuel cell vehicles in temperatures below freezing point. The vehicle’s architecture is optimized to allow it to be started at -30 degrees Celsius (22 degrees Fahrenheit), by incorporating key components in the fuel stack developed by Hyundai Motor. In addition to boosting the new car’s capabilities, the enhanced components – such as MEA (membrane electrode assembly) and bipolar plates – also helped to reduce production costs.  Durability: By employing highly durable catalyst technology, the new hydrogen-powered SUV ensures even greater longevity than its predecessor.  Hydrogen storage: The next generation hydrogen vehicle makes significant improvements in tank storage density. The tank package now features three equally-sized tanks, as opposed to two of different sizes. World-class tank gravimetric capacity (hydrogen storage mass per tank weight) was achieved through innovations to the plastic liner configuration and efficient layering pattern, which resulted in a reduction of thickness.  The mass-produced new vehicle will also feature advanced driver assistance technologies, alongside its extensive hydrogen-powered range. The details of the new ADAS features will be disclosed in January at the 2018 CES, along with the official model name. “With exceptional efficiency, serene styling, and uncompromised performance, our next generation fuel cell SUV is the true epitome of an eco-friendly vehicle of the future,” said Lee Ki-sang, Senior Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group’s Eco Technology Center. “Hyundai Motor will take lead in developing and producing green energy vehicles that would ultimately complement a near-zero emission society.”  Futuristic design inspired by natureThe new FCEV inherits striking design features from the FE Concept, which was introduced at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show. The new model builds on the earlier concept’s design, taking an organic and flowing form, inspired by nature – namely water, the car’s only emission – with the clean design emphasizing its non-polluting nature.  The new vehicle embodies pure and serene design, which reflects its calming presence on the road. It also exhibits a confident, charismatic SUV stance, that reflects its capabilities to travel long distances and explore remote places, all while being in harmony with nature.  A number of minimalist design elements highlight the model’s technical maturity and cutting-edge technology. The simple full width position lamps create a futuristic effect that again reflects nature, representing the edge of the horizon.  The high-tech look is augmented by low-drag elements that accentuate the clean and calm design. The door handles sit flush to the car, while the air curtain – in conjunction with the air tunnel inside the D-pillar – maximizes aerodynamic efficiency. The SUV’s wheel design aims to capture both captivating style and optimized low drag airflow with a specialized two-piece construction.  The clean and simple interior layout intuitively integrates high-tech elements, to avoid clutter and emphasize a calming presence. The wide dashboard with its high console reinforces the superior SUV-style driving position and incorporates the ergonomically-designed intuitive controls and AV display screen.  Reflecting the exterior design, the interior features subdued yet sophisticated colors inspired by nature. The understated tones help create an ultramodern environment, complemented by industry leading bio-materials with eco-friendly certification. Completing the futuristic finish is a unique blend of woven fabric and suede used for accents in the seat design. New eco-vehicle development roadmapThe new model will spearhead Hyundai Motor’s plans to accelerate development of low emission vehicles, in line with Hyundai Motor Group’s renewed goal of introducing 31 eco-friendly models (Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors combined) to global markets by 2020. This new development roadmap also represents the next step for Hyundai Motor and its affiliate toward realizing the ultimate ambition of creating a cleaner environment through eco-friendly vehicles. Hyundai Motor plans to take a multi-pronged approach to its eco-vehicle program. The company is committed to a future vehicle line-up comprising a variety of powertrain options – electric, hybrid and fuel cell – to suit customers’ varied lifestyles.  Spurred on by greater global demand for fuel-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles, the roadmap sets out the brand’s goal of leading the global popularization of hybrid vehicles, expanding its lineup to SUVs and large vehicles. Another part of the plan is the development of 4WD and FR (Front Engine Rear Wheel Drive) variants, building on its proprietary Transmission-Mounted Electrical Device (TMED) system, which was developed in 2011.  While Hyundai Motor continues to develop its leadership of the electric vehicle market with its current IONIQ model, the company also aims to establish a lineup ranging from small EVs to large and luxurious Genesis-brand models. Hyundai Motor’s electric vehicle development will take place in multiple phases: Launch of EV version of the Kona compact SUV, with range of 390km in first half of 2018Launch of Genesis EV model in 2021Launch of long-range EV, with 500km range after 2021 Furthermore, Hyundai Motor will develop its first dedicated architecture for pure electric vehicles, which will allow the company to produce multiple models with longer driving ranges.  Hyundai Motor will also strengthen its global leadership in hydrogen fuel cell technology. This will center on enhancing research and development efforts to boost FCEV performance and durability, while also making the technology smaller and cheaper so that it can be applied to smaller sedans. As part of these efforts, Hyundai Motor will unveil a new hydrogen-powered bus in the fourth quarter of this year. Hydrogen Society within everyone’s reachHyundai Motor will also take part in the Hydrogen House, projected by the Seoul city government, displaying prototypes of the new fuel cell vehicle starting today until November 17 that will promote emission-free fuel cell vehicles and a Hydrogen Society. It is through initiatives like this that Hyundai Motor will demonstrate how a Hydrogen Energy Society could be realized in the not-too-distant future.  Hyundai Motor, the world’s first automaker to have introduced a mass production line for hydrogen fuel cell cars, has supplied fuel cell vehicles since 2013, and now sells them in 18 countries around the world. The company began researching fuel cell technology in 1998 and developed its first fuel cell vehicle based on the Santa Fe SUV, as part of a collaboration with CaFCP (California Fuel Cell Partnership).  Through numerous years of development and production, Hyundai Motor has proved that fuel cell vehicles are as competitive as internal combustion engine cars in terms of safety and reliability. Hyundai Motor will reveal the new hydrogen SUV early next year in Korea, followed by the North American and European markets. The company will also consider expanding availability of its new fuel cell model to markets with high growth potential for eco-friendly vehicles such as China.

HYUNDAI IONIQ NAMED ‘BEST GREEN TECHNOLOGY’ IN TOP FLEET AWARDS

High Wycombe, 25 July 2017 – A panel of fleet industry experts has named the Hyundai IONIQ as the ‘Best Green Technology’ for businesses. Judges of the 2017 BusinessCar Fleet Technology Awards – the ‘Techies’ – said the choice of three electrified powertrains for fleets was the most significant factor in giving it the top prize. The Hyundai IONIQ is unique in offering separate hybrid, full electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains within one body type. It enables business car decision-makers to specify the IONIQ that best meets the needs of their drivers, depending on driving style, travel frequency, and the distances typically covered. The capabilities of the zero-emission IONIQ Electric are perfect for fleets focused on their carbon footprint or the lowest BIK rates for users. Completing the line-up of powertrain choices in 2017 is the IONIQ Plug-in Hybrid, offering ultra-low CO2 emissions of just 26g/km and a BIK rate of just 9% for 2017/18. Users can experience up to 39 miles of pure electric driving, with a total range of 680 miles. Hyundai Motor’s Fleet team worked hard to ensure the IONIQ is as competitive as possible for fleets. The IONIQ Electric is best-in-class for service, maintenance and repair costs, with the lowest prices at both the 3yr/30,000-mile and 5yr/50,000-mile points. Vehicle benefit tax for the pure-electric model is just 7%, which means the cost for company car users starts from £405 per year – just £33.75 per month. The innovative use of ecologically sensitive materials in IONIQ’s cabin adds to its green credentials for environmentally-conscious fleets. Recycled plastic is combined with powdered wood and volcanic stone for the interior door covers, providing the same quality appearance as conventional oil-based plastics. Debbie Wood, BusinessCar’s editor, said; “Environmental concerns around transport have never been so topical and fleets are constantly on the lookout for greener solutions to help reduce their overall carbon footprint. This years’ Green Techies award proved to be a fiercely competitive category - but the Hyundai Ioniq emerged as the clear favourite. It’s the first car to be available as a conventional hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and a pure EV in one body type. Add to that its generous equipment levels, an understated and mainstream design, and a roomy interior and we think the Ioniq has all the essential ingredients needed for an award-winning green fleet car.” Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO, Hyundai Motor UK, said, “The choice of three electrified powertrains in IONIQ represents a world first for fleet decision-makers, so it’s great to see that endorsed by industry experts. IONIQ is enabling new opportunities for Hyundai with business car users in the UK, and we’ve already seen orders surpassing expectations in the first half of 2017.” Hyundai has made rapid advances in fleet in recent years, with significant business growth, product innovations, process improvements, and a high level of customer service central to its success. The company’s latest accolade follows other wins, as ‘Green Manufacturer of the Year’ and ‘Best Plug-in Car’ at the Fleet News Awards, the ‘Best SME Aftersales Programme’ award from Business Car Manager, and the i10 being named ‘Best City Car’ in the Fleet World Honours earlier this year.

Ride and handling The development engineers have designed the All-New KONA with a good balance between power and comfortable ride and handling qualities in addition to agility and nimbleness. The KONA offers customers a true SUV experience thanks to a ground clearance of 170 mm. Its elevated seating position ensures better visibility for drivers and increases driving comfort. At the same time, the lowered interior floor and the optimised tunnel part of the SUV platform allow for a spacious interior which further adds to the Kona’s versatility. The optional four-wheel drive benefits from an adjusted transfer mounting angle, thus improving the turbo engine's performance. The low, wide stance of the KONA not only catches the eye and ensures a strong appearance on the road, it also improves ride and handling capabilities – form follows function. Great care has also gone into the development of the new suspension system. The McPherson strut in the front with its refined geometry delivers a refined body movement on rough roads for a comfortable ride that absorbs shocks before they reach the interior. The coupled torsion beam axle in the rear of the two-wheel drive KONA is characterised by its ride comfort and sporty handling feel thanks to its high-stiffness torsion beam. The All-New KONA with four-wheel drive feature a multi-link rear suspension which helps to optimise ride and handling, maximising stability during accelerated cornering with the dual lower arm-type multi-link. Advanced Traction Cornering Control for four-wheel drive directs understeering and improves the vehicle’s agility and stability by controlling both traction and damping while accelerating in curved sections. Strong, lightweight body Hyundai Motor is the only car manufacturer to make its own steel for the global production of its vehicles, with benefits for the All-New KONA, which features a strong, light body that enhances the dynamic performance and increases passive passenger safety. The ultra-high-strength steel ensures highest rigidity while the broad appliance of hot stamping and 115 m of structural adhesive improve stiffness while reducing weight. Despite the compact exterior, the safety zone of the KONA’s body structure has been maximised and further improved by a ring-shaped cabin structure that disperses crush energy in various directions in the event of a collision and reduces the impact for passengers. The multi-load pass structure also disperses crush energy and works towards the goal of achieving optimal passive safety. Connected and caring  The All-New Kona offers customers advanced connectivity features to enhance seamless integration of your smartphone, making operation more intiuituve and safe while driving. High-end sound system by Krell Today’s customers like to listen to their favourite soundtrack in their car, for this reason the KONA offers a high-end sound system by audio manufacturer Krell featuring eight speakers including two 20 mm tweeters, four 160 mm woofer speakers, one 100 mm centre speaker and a 200 mm subwoofer speaker. The eight-channel amplifier delivers 45 Watt per channel to maximise the audio experience inside the car. Highest level of active safety The All-New KONA features the latest active safety features, to comply with the highest European safety standards: Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Keeping Assist (standard), High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Alert (standard), Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection The All-New KONA is fitted with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, an advanced active safety feature that alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking autonomously if required. Using front radar and camera sensors, AEB operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger stage, and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The system is activated when a vehicle or pedestrian is sensed in front of the car, operating at speeds of 8 km/h or above. Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) (standard) The Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) alerts the driver in unsafe movements at over 60 km/h by sensing the car’s position. It sounds an alarm before the car moves over white, grey and blue lines as well as Bott’s dots on the road, and warns the driver acoustically and visually before inducing corrective steering to guide the driver back to a safe position. High Beam Assist (HBA) When switched to automatic mode, High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night, and changes to low-beam as appropriate, reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected, the system automatically reactivates the high beams, Driver Attention Alert (DAA) (standard) Driver Attention Alert (DAA) raises safety and convenience to an entirely new level by continuously monitoring and analyzing driving patterns through data inputs such as the steering angle, steering torque and vehicle position in the traffic lane. When a pattern of fatigue/distraction is identified, DAA gets the driver’s attention with an audible alert and pop-up message suggesting a break. Blind Spot Detection (BSD) Also using radar, the Blind Spot Detection (BSD) monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. If the driver then activates the indicators, an audible signal is emitted. This also applies to lane change situations in which a vehicle is detected. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) Using the rear corner radar, the Rear Cross Traffic Collision Alert (RCTA) reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility. Using radar to scan a 180-degree area behind the vehicle for approaching cross-traffic, RCTA alerts the driver visually and audibly. Highest Passive Safety The All-New KONA benefits from superior rigidity through the application of high strength steel, high impact energy absorption and minimised distortion in order to protect passengers in the event of a collision. Thanks to an enlarged area for the appliance of hot stamping and a ring-shaped cabin shell structure with ultra-high-strength steel, the safety zone has been enlarged for top crashworthiness. The multiload-pass structure of the cabin disperses energy in the event of a collision in various directions and reduces the impact. Around the interior of the Kona a total of six airbags are installed. - two front airbags, two side airbags and two curtain airbags from first to second row protecting both driver and passengers. * Preliminary target fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, subject to homologation. **Lifetime MapCare™ is the commercial term for Hyundai’s subscription to the MapCare™ programme with which annual map updates are assured for the eligible Hyundai vehicles for a minimum period of ten years after the model’s end of production. Please note that UK vehicle trim specifications may differ. Full UK line-up and pricing will be announced in due course.

NEW GENERATION HYUNDAI i30 TOURER: ELEGANCE MEETS VERSATILITY

This year’s Geneva International Motor Show is the stage for the unveiling of the New Generation Hyundai i30 Tourer. The new member of the i30 family maintains the timeless design of its five-door sibling, adding elegance and versatility in its body style. “Designed, developed, tested and manufactured in Europe, the New Generation Hyundai i30 is Hyundai Motor’s DNA car in Europe,” says Thomas A. Schmid, Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe. “The i30 is more than just a model – it is a family of cars, consisting of four body types with unique characters united by a coherent, timeless design. With the new i30 Tourer we are now introducing the next body type, offering elegance and versatility for everyone.” “The New Generation i30 Tourer speaks the language of the i30 family in terms of design, and it carries the new Hyundai family identity – the Cascading Grille,” explains Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Design Centre Europe. “The tapering roofline and the dynamic proportions give the Tourer an almost coupé-like silhouette. The sleek and dynamic profile is further emphasised by a rich chrome frame surrounding the side windows.” In combination with the full-LED headlamps and the vertical LED daytime running lights, the New Generation i30 Tourer has a strong visual presence. High versatility with one of the biggest boots in the segment The i30 Tourer’s sleek design does not compromise boot space: with 602 litres of space (VDA 211) and 1,650 litres (VDA 214) with the seats folded, it has one of the biggest boots in the segment. Versatility is further enhanced by the additional storage space beneath the boot floor with several compartments. The overall length of the Tourer is 4,585 mm (5-door version: 4,340 mm), the height is 1,465 mm (1,475 mm with roof rack). The overall width of 1,795 mm and wheelbase of 2,650 mm are the same as the five-door version. Best-in-class standard safety package Hyundai Motor democratises technology by offering latest active safety and connectivity features for the New Generation i30 Tourer. The i30 offers best-in-class standard active safety with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist System always on board. Using camera sensors, the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) fitted in the i30 operates in three stages. Initially warning the driver visually and acoustically, it controls the brake according to the collision danger stage, and applies maximum braking force to avoid a collision or minimise damage when a collision is unavoidable. The optional pedestrian recognition uses a front radar and avoids or mitigates the consequence of an impact with a pedestrian. Driver Attention Alert (DAA) is a driver protection feature which helps monitor driving patterns in order to detect fatigued driving and prevent potential accidents. Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) keeps a constant speed and distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically accelerating and braking up to 180 km/h. If the traffic comes to a halt, the system applies the brake until the car comes to a standstill and accelerates to the desired speed as soon as the road is clear. The Blind Spot Detector (BSD) with Lane Change Assist monitors the rear corners and, if another vehicle is detected, a visual alert appears on the exterior mirrors. The Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system reduces the risk of collision with approaching traffic when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility by alerting the driver visually and acoustically. The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) alerts the driver of unsafe movements at over 60 km/h by sensing the car’s position. It warns the driver before inducing corrective steering to guide the driver back to a safe position. The Speed Limit Information Function (SLIF) identifies road speed signs and displays the speed limit in real time. The information is shown both in the navigation system display as well as in the TFT cluster. A High Beam Assist (HBA) detects both oncoming vehicles and vehicles in the same lane ahead at night and changes to low-beam as appropriate, reducing blinding effects on other drivers. Whenever there are no vehicles detected HBA automatically re-activates the high beams, maximising the driver’s range of vision. Smart and connected The i30 Tourer offers customers a spacious and elegant interior with a horizontal layout and free floating screen for the infotainment system. The eight-inch touch screen of the new generation navigation system offers state-of-the-art connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and LIVE Services. A wireless charging system for smartphones with the Qi standard is available as well. As an alternative, customers can choose between different audio options, including the audio system with a five-inch capacitive LCD touch screen with integrated dynamic rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity and My Music functionality. Dynamic and efficient powertrains The powertrain line-up of the i30 Tourer consists of downsized turbocharged engines to enhance efficiency and responsiveness (preliminary fuel consumption in l/100 km for the Hyundai i30 Tourer range: combined 5.8 – 3.6 l/100km, CO2 Emissions 135– 95 g/km*). Customers can choose from two petrol engines and one 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine with 110PS. The Tourer is available with Hyundai’s all-new turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, the 1.4 T-GDI delivers maximum power of 140 PS and the new three-cylinder 1.0 T-GDI that delivers maximum power of 120 PS. Driving dynamics The engineers of Hyundai Motor Europe’s Technical Centre in Germany enhanced the driving dynamics of the New Generation i30 in a rigorous testing programme throughout Europe and on the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. The highly rigid and light body with 53 % Advanced High Strength Steel provides the basis for good ride and handling characteristics, and the fact that it is combined with 10 % more direct steering and a newly developed chassis means the driver can enjoy dynamic driving together with high levels of comfort. Made in Europe Designed in Hyundai Motor Europe’s Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, produced in Nošovice, Czech Republic, and tested on the Nürburgring, the third generation i30 family is built on the infrastructure that Hyundai Motor has developed over the last 25 years in Europe. It aims to continue the success of the two previous generations of i30, which have sold more than 800,000 cars in Europe since 2008. *Official combined cycle test –All values are tentative and not homologated yet, hence subject to changes.

HYUNDAI IONIQ ELECTRIFIES AT THE NEXT GREEN CAR AWARDS

The new Hyundai IONIQ has been hailed as Next Green Car’s Car of the Year 2016. Next Green Car’s judges also awarded IONIQ Electric with the top spot in Small Family category, against the Renault Megane, Fiat Tipo and Volvo V40. The judges praised IONIQ’s capabilities as an all round family car, as well as its recognised eco credentials as a zero emission electric vehicle. The Next Green Car judge’s explained the verdicts "It's tough to find any weaknesses with the Hyundai IONIQ Electric. Plenty of range-stretching features help make the IONIQ Electric an easy EV to drive over long distances, while the company has also packed in plenty of performance, practicality, and value for money into the package.” Tony Whitehorn, President and CEO Hyundai Motor UK, said “We are very pleased to receive both of these awards from Next Green Car. It is particularly satisfying to hear the judge’s verdicts commending IONIQ Electric for its all round abilities, as it underlines what we already know; that for our customers, the complete vehicle package is just as important as IONIQ’s zero emission performance.” Hyundai’s IONIQ Hybrid and Electric went on sale at the end of October and since then almost 300 cars have been delivered. Both models will be joined in Hyundai showrooms by IONIQ Plug-in, which begins sales in Q2 2017. HYUNDAI MOTORSPORT SCORES VICTORY AS THIERRY NEUVILLE SHOOTS THE WINNER IN WRC RALLY ITALIA :  Hyundai Motorsport has secured its second victory of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) season with a dominant performance by the Hyundai Motorsport team’s Thierry Neuville in WRC Rally Italia Sardegna (June 9~12). Thierry Neuville has been on sublime form throughout the rally, extending his lead over Volkswagen Motorsport’s Jari-Matti Latvala on the final day to win the rally by 24.8 seconds. The result marks the second victory for the New Generation i20 WRC this season, and the team’s third win in total after Rallye Deutschland in 2014 and Rally Argentina back in April. Hyundai Motorsport team driver Dani Sordo also had a trouble-free run to claim his fourth consecutive fourth place position. Kevin Abbring, meanwhile, was on top of their game to finish second in the Power Stage, securing their first WRC points. For Thierry Neuville, the victory is the result of a concerted team effort as well as the improved performance of the New Generation i20 WRC, and marks his first victory in WRC since Germany 2014. It is the most accomplished performance of his career with nine stage wins within his rally history. Thierry Neuville commented: “A truly fantastic weekend! Great things come to those who earn them, and it’s definitely a nice feeling to share this victory with an amazing team. The New Generation i20 WRC has performed very well, class-leading. It’s been great fun to drive and we’ve felt comfortable. We didn’t feel too much pressure in final stages, but just focused on getting the car safely through to the end. We did everything we needed to and we can now celebrate our second WRC victory.” Hyundai Motorsport has now taken podiums in five out of six rallies this season, with two victories, making it the team’s most successful WRC season even before reaching the halfway point. Next round of the FIA WRC, WRC Rally Poland, takes place from June 30 to July 3, and will mark the halfway point of the 2016 WRC Championship.

What Hyundai has done here with the creation of the FanDome is really innovative and puts the fans first. I’m always keen to give back and continue to be involved in a sport I’m so passionate about. I’d encourage all football fans to come down and see me in action in the Hyundai FanDome’s ‘Football Heaven’.” Tony Whitehorn, President & CEO, Hyundai Motor UK comments, “We are thrilled to be able to put fans first and share their passion for the sport by creating this innovative and unique football experience. HYUNDAI MOTOR UK IS OFFICIAL CAR PARTNER TO WALES RALLY GB FOR THIRD YEAR RUNNING :  Hyundai Motor UK is delighted to announce that, for the third successive season, it will partner Britain’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship. Building on the successful affiliation of the past two years, Hyundai Motor UK has been reappointed as the prestigious event’s ‘Official Car Partner’ – a move that reinforces the company’s growing presence at the forefront of the WRC. Hyundai Motorsport’s ambitious team returned to the World Rally Championship at the start of 2014 and made an immediate impact by winning in Germany. Stepping up its challenge, a second-generation i20 WRC was introduced at the start of this season and has already proved to be a winner with a stirring victory in Argentina. The partnership between Wales Rally GB and Hyundai Motor UKonce again will see the rally-winning i20 WRC car featuring prominently on all of the 2016 event’s promotional materials including posters, ticketing leaflets and publicity flyers as well as on the walesrallygb.com website and the cover of the official programme. Hyundai Motor UK will also provide a fleet of 34 liveried vehicles for use on the event (27-30 October) by key members of the organisation team and FIA dignitaries. “It has been a pleasure to join forces with Hyundai for the past two years and we are delighted the company is extending its role as ‘Official Car Partner’ to Wales Rally GB in 2016,” said Ben Taylor, Managing Director of Wales Rally GB. “The logistics and demands of staging a major world championship event are enormous, and we couldn’t possibly overcome these challenges without the support of major partners like Hyundai. Its fleet of impressive cars and SUVs have proved absolutely invaluable to the successful organisation and running of Wales Rally GB and will do so again come October.” The Hyundai Motorsport team enjoyed an encouraging Wales Rally GB debut in 2014 when Thierry Neuville just missed out on a podium with a highly creditable fourth position – a positive result that Dani Sordo replicated in 2015. Moreover, with team-mate Hayden Paddon finishing fifth, there were two Hyundai i20s in the top five. Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai Motor UK’s President and CEO, commented: “Rally sport is in Hyundai’s DNA and we are delighted to be supporting Wales Rally GB for the third consecutive year. There couldn’t be a better environment for us to showcase the robustness of our road and rally products than over the tough forest rally routes of north and mid Wales in late October.” He continued: “Competing in the World Rally Championships allows us to transfer technology and learnings between our competition and showroom models – and this will be even more prevalent as we develop and bring to market our motorsport-inspired high performance sub-brand ‘N’. We hope that through our continuing support of the event, we can not only raise the awareness of our current range but also underline its dynamism to what is always an engaged and enthusiastic audience. The latest i20 WRC has already proven its capabilities when winning in Argentina and, having come so close for the past two years, it would be fantastic to see the Hyundai Motorsport team on the podium here in the UK.” This year’s exciting rally route – including some significant new elements – will be revealed on Wednesday 1 June. In the meantime, spectators can pre-register their interest for ticket information – and enter a special prize draw – via the official www.walesrallygb.com website. HYUNDAI MOTOR BUILDS ON NÜRBURGRING 24H RACE FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF A FUTURE HIGH-PERFORMANCE ENGINE :  Hyundai Motor’s development car i30 2.0 Turbo met all expectations at its first motor-racing appearance in the Nürburgring 24h Race at the legendary Nordschleife. The race at one of the most demanding racetracks in the world served as an intense test for the new, performance-orientated engine that will be applied to the first N model.  “The endurance race at the Nürburgring is the toughest race in the world. It’s the perfect environment for testing the resilience of our new turbo-charged two-litre engine with direct fuel injection under extreme strain,” said Albert Biermann, Head of Vehicle Test & High Performance Development. The newly designed turbo-charge engine, which is the heart of the development vehicle, coped with the strains of the 24h Race. This is an important finding for Hyundai Motor and the development of future high-performance engines. “We are on a very good way regarding the design of our first N vehicle. In the process of designing high-performance engines, the highest possible horsepower output is not the top priority. Instead, the engineers focus on maximum driving pleasure and driving fun without compromising the every-day-usability,” added Albert Biermann. Many components of Hyundai i30 2.0 Turbo were changed to run at the Nordschleife. Components such as the engine, the adapted suspension and shock absorbers were enhanced as well as improvement in other areas such as wheels, steering, fender extensions and safety components were made for motor racing.  In addition to the important findings that will be incorporated in the design of future Hyundai engines, the race also proved to be a major success from the motor racing point of view. The i30 2.0 Turbo outpaced quite a number of the other 159 cars that contested the endurance classic. The development vehicle took the chequered flag after 24 hours in 90th position in the overall rankings. Altogether, the drivers Bruno Beulen (BE), Michael Bohrer (DE), Alexander Köppen (DE) and Rory Pentinnen (FI) completed 91 laps at the gruelling racetrack, representing a distance of 2,309.39 kilometres at racing speed and recording the fastest lap time of 9:55.636 minutes, which even broke the 10-minute barrier.  The development vehicle that contested the Nürburgring 24h Race was designed and built by Hyundai Motor dealer and racing-car constructor Peter Schumann. The racing cars successfully run by Hyundai Motor Deutschland also were developed, designed and built by the Schumann motorsport department.  Over 185,000 people gathered to watch the Nürburgring 24h Race. About 12,000 people were at the ‘Hyundai N Fan Arena’ to cheer for the Hyundai cars. The three Hyundai cars that contested the 24 Race all completed the race with the Veloster 1.6 Turbo ranking first in its class.
