Latest News: The All-new SEAT Ibiza has landed its first major UK award, weeks before it even arrives on our shores, after being named Best Supermini at the 2017 Auto Express New Car Awards, announced at a ceremony this evening.  It’s a tremendous accomplishment for the super-stylish new model, asserting its market-leading potential and huge customer appeal. We love the space, comfort and refinement as well as the style. But best of all is the price - this is a really affordable car to buy and run.”  His words back up the results of Auto Express’ first review on UK roads, which declared “there’s a new top dog in Britain’s favourite segment”.  Richard Harrison, SEAT UK Director, said: “This award provides a great launch pad for our most important new model launch of the year. We have worked hard to make this not only the best Ibiza yet, but also the best model in its class. We’re confident that in terms of all-round performance, style, quality and owner-appeal, it has what it takes to be a winner – and we’re delighted that Auto Express shares this opinion.  “Of course our ambitions do not end with the All-new Ibiza, it’s part of an exciting and ambitious new product programme that has already yielded great results with the launch of the Ateca SUV and the significant upgrades to our Leon family. The All-new Ibiza is the third car in our largest ever product offensive of four model launches in just 18 months, followed soon by the very exciting New Arona compact crossover which was unveiled to the world just last night in Barcelona.”  UK customers don’t have long to wait to discover just what the All-new Ibiza offers – the official launch for the brand’s striking new five-door supermini takes place across the country on 21 July. ALL-NEW IBIZA LEADS SUCCESS FOR SEAT AT AUTO EXPRESS NEW CAR AWARDS

The All-new SEAT Ibiza has landed its first major UK award, weeks before it even arrives on our shores, after being named Best Supermini at the 2017 Auto Express New Car Awards, announced at a ceremony this evening.  It’s a tremendous accomplishment for the super-stylish new model, asserting its market-leading potential and huge customer appeal. SEAT CONFIRMS UK PRICING AND SPECIFICATION FOR ALL-NEW IBIZA

The countdown has started for the most important event of the year so far for SEAT, with first orders being taken this week for the All-new SEAT Ibiza. The arrival of the hotly anticipated new model this summer promises to add even more impetus to the remarkable sales success the stylish Spanish brand is enjoying nationwide. “Ibiza is an iconic model for SEAT, a best-seller that’s been at the heart of our line-up for more than 30 years,” said Richard Harrison, Director, SEAT UK. “With that kind of heritage, you can be sure the new model will be a benchmark car, taking SEAT quality, design, engineering and technology to an even higher level. “The New Leon range and the Ateca, our first SUV, have set the scene perfectly, generating huge customer response and helping raise UK sales to record heights already this year. The All-new Ibiza will complete a powerful trio at the heart of our brand and we cannot wait to introduce it to British buyers.” Early reports from British media experts who were first to get behind the wheel signal just how good a car the latest Ibiza promises to be. Auto Express magazine declared it “sets the class standard” for superminis, while What Car? reports that it’s “great to look at and to drive – one of the best small cars you can buy”. In terms of street appeal, the All-new Ibiza – now exclusively a five-door – is every inch a modern SEAT, designed and developed in Barcelona. Sporty, edgy lines combine with sculpted bodywork to give the car striking, eye-catching appeal, with a clear bloodline link to the cool styling cues established with the new Leon and Ateca, and further distinguishing SEAT as a leader in contemporary car design. Hot new exterior colours and a class-leading eight-inch infotainment screen have been added too, to keep Ibiza firmly on-trend with current tastes. It’s what lies beneath the skin, however, that defines the All-new Ibiza’s quality as a car that is dynamically rewarding to drive and also remarkably spacious within its compact body. It has the distinction of being the first model to be built on a new modular Volkswagen Group vehicle platform, MQB A0. The new underpinnings are the key to making the latest Ibiza a lithe performer around urban streets and an engaging proposition when out on the open road. They also allow for an exceptionally spacious cabin in a car that’s actually shorter than the one it replaces:  with width increased by 87mm, 60mm added to the wheelbase and 35mm more rear legroom, comfortable accommodation is guaranteed. And there’s more room in the boot, too, with an extra 63 litres available. The All-new Ibiza arrives at launch with a choice of four petrol engines, majoring on a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit, engineered to deliver a compelling mix of economy and spirited performance. In standard form it will produce a useful 75PS, while turbo versions will offer 95 and 115PS – the latter reserved for the sporty FR model with a six-speed manual or sophisticated dual-clutch automatic transmission. Official benchmark figures indicate combined cycle fuel consumption from 60.1 mpg and 106 g/km of CO2 (1.0 TSI 95PS). To add an extra performance dimension to the range, the FR will also be available with a potent 150PS 1.5 EVO engine, while diesels will be added to the line-up later in the year. The breadth of choice takes in four trim levels and top quality equipment specifications that keep the All-new Ibiza firmly in the frame when it comes to today’s customer preferences on technology, “always-on” connectivity, in-car entertainment, comfort and safety. At entry point, the S version keeps things simple and smart, with features including air conditioning, electric front windows, automatic headlights, Bluetooth and advanced safety features including Front Assist.  Moving up to SE grade delivers a wealth of extra features: 15-inch alloys, front fog lights with cornering function, rain-sensing wipers,  cruise control and multi-coloured ambient cabin lighting are all included, together with SEAT’s Media System Colour multimedia package. The FR focuses on sportier looks with 17-inch alloys, dark-tinted rear glass, brilliant black and chrome bodywork details and twin exhausts; likewise, the cabin is fitted with sports front seats and flat-bottom steering wheel and Full Link smartphone integration. Add in sports suspension, rear disc brakes and SEAT Drive Profile with four selectable drive modes and you have a car that adds authentic performance to its arresting looks. XCELLENCE, new to Ibiza, tops out the range, with distinguishing features such as 16-inch machined alloy wheels, Atom Grey door mirror housings, Alcantara upholstery, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry-and-go, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. A wealth of options extend the possibilities even further, including a Beats audio system – reflecting Ibiza’s status as having the youngest customer age profile of any UK supermini. The new Ibiza range starts from £13,130 on the road. Orders can be placed now with the first cars in UK showrooms on 21 July.

SEAT Ateca is Honest John’s Car of the Year

The Ateca has been awarded Honest John’s Car of the Year award, adding yet another accolade to its haul since it was launched last summer. Our SUV was also named best crossover. The Honest John awards are based on the number of page views for each new car review during the year, with about two million unique page visits across the site every month. Dan Powell, Honest John’s Managing Editor, said: “We had to wait a long time for SEAT’s first crossover, but the good-looking and affordable Ateca is proof that good things do indeed come to those who wait. “Over the past 12 months, no other car has come close to matching the admiration of the Ateca, with our readers praising its style, comfort and running costs. As a result, the superb SEAT takes both the car of the year and most-popular crossover awards for 2017.” Richard Harrison, Director of SEAT UK, said: “This is a fantastic award to receive, not least because it’s based on real-world enthusiasm for the Ateca, expressed by the huge numbers of people who use Honest John’s website. “The Ateca is proving a huge hit for us in the UK and, in truth, we could hardly have scripted a better start for it, both in terms of its sales success and multi-award-winning first few months on sale.”

The company has entered its fifth consecutive year of increased sales after posting 16.5% growth in January. The fifth generation of the SEAT Ibiza has been developed in Barcelona and is a decisive step forward in the future of SEAT. Firstly, because it demonstrates the Volkswagen Group’s latest technology, the MQB-A0 platform (Modular Quer Baukasten) which shows the importance of the SEAT brand within the Volkswagen Group, as this platform application is the first in the supermini segment. And secondly, because it benefits from the most advanced technology, a notable increase in interior space, plus, a rewarding driving experience. This has led to the creation of a completely new model while, retaining Ibiza’s young spirit, dynamism, functionality and comfort. MEMORABLE EVENING FOR THE SEAT ATECA

The SEAT Ateca received its first international accolade in Lisbon recently with the AUTOBEST recognition of the car as “Best Buy Car of Europe in 2017”. The prize-giving hosted by the Portuguese capital gathered representatives of the main European manufacturers, industry referents and the AUTOBEST’s awards panel, led by their Chairman and Founder, Dan Vardie. SEAT President, Luca de Meo, was accompanied by executives of the company and part of the team involved in the awards. De Meo expressed his pleasure at the prestigious award. “The Ateca was our main player in 2016, achieving important awards and doubling the sales forecast. The AUTOBEST panel’s recognition is a source of pride for SEAT because it shows that our range, which in 2017 will be strengthened with the launch of the new Ibiza and the SEAT Arona, is widening in the right direction”. Dan Vardie, AUTOBEST Founder & Chairman, said that “The victory of SEAT Ateca is representing premieres for both SEAT and AUTOBEST. With a clear victory coming from the 31 Jury members from as many European countries, SEAT is taking the first AUTOBEST award in the history of the competition. The Ateca is a very convincing expression of SEAT's ‘Created in Barcelona’ concept, a new brand philosophy pioneered by the Spanish producer. Having the ‘BEST Buy Car of Europe’ a SUV, is a clear sign that these segments are representing the future of mobility, with a remarkable increase in the years to come. With Ateca and the other models coming on, SEAT is placing itself in the core of new trends of motoring. On behalf of the Jury members and myself, It is a great pleasure to congratulate all the people involved in the project”. The Ateca, boosting SEAT salesWith its best sales since 2007, in 2016 SEAT delivered 410,200 vehicles, 2.6% more than in 2015. THE BEST IBIZA EVER

The New SEAT Ibiza is already here loaded with the latest technology features, outstanding dynamics, and an impressive improvement in interior space and comfort. The Spanish brand’s most important model has all-new styling while preserving the same youthful, functional, sporty and comfortable spirit as always. And it does so with a fresh design that reflects the latest SEAT distinctive character by continuing with the brand’s DNA but with an edgier, sportier design, featuring more sculpted, accentuated, exciting and streamlined surfaces. The fifth generation of the SEAT Ibiza will make its public debut at the next Geneva Auto Show and go on sale in June 2017. The new SEAT Ibiza, then, is a completely new model that was created with very ambitious goals in mind: To go a major step ahead in safety, design, performance and comfort. This huge advance in quality was achieved thanks to the new MQB A0 modular platform. The new SEAT Ibiza is the Volkswagen Group first model to use this platform, highlighting SEAT’s importance within the Group and offering countless advantages.    Launched in 1984 for the first time, the Ibiza has become an icon of SEAT. This car has been around the longest in the history of the brand and is its top-selling model, with over 5.4 million units sold. The Ibiza is one of the three pillars of the company, together with the Leon and Ateca, on which SEAT relies to continue building the success of the company in the future. More compact, roomier, more efficientThe new SEAT Ibiza has impressively increased its interior roominess, it is a lot more robust, and also, a lot safer. It is much wider by a stunning 87 mm, it is two mm shorter  and one lower than the previous model, but more than anything, the change in its dimensions conveys a powerful image of a car that hugs the ground. And the key is in the new MQB A0 platform. The wheeltrack is 60 mm wider at the front axle and 48 at the rear axle, while the distance between the axles is 2,564 millimetres, a 95-mm increase. The result is a much more comfortable car, with the new SEAT Ibiza being both roomier on the inside and larger on the outside. For example, leg room in the back seats has increased by 35 mm, while the head room has gone up by 24 mm in the front seats and 17 mm in the back. The seats are an astonishing 42 mm wider, making the new SEAT Ibiza one of the best in its class in this area. The boot has also been enlarged by 63 litres, bringing its total capacity to 355 litres, making it best in class. The loading height has also been lowered, proof that SEAT knows how to combine design and functionality. All of the engines available on the new SEAT Ibiza comply with the Euro6 emissions regulation and lead the way in performance, with outstanding features, high mileage and low emissions. There are three aluminium block and cylinder petrol engines to choose from. The first option is the 3 cylinder 1.0 TSI with 95 or 115 PS, along with a turbocompressor, intercooler and direct injection. A new 1.5 TSI will be available in late 2017 with four cylinders and 150 PS. Efficient 1.6 TDI diesel engines will come in 80, 95 and 115 PS varieties. Finally, the new MQB A0 platform allows the New Ibiza to offer a compressed-natural gas (CNG) powered 90-PS 1.0 TSI engine. SEAT is the first maker to offer an engine of this type in this class. The gearboxes available are a manual 5-speed transmission for the 95-PS and lower engines and a 6-speed transmission for the more powerful engines. The dual-clutch DSG 7-speed gearbox is another of the options available on the new SEAT Ibiza. The car’s dynamic behaviour, ride quality and driving comfort are exceptional thanks to the new MQB A0 platform, as well as to the 30% higher torsional stiffness. The new SEAT Ibiza is only available in a 5-door option, which is now more functional and the new design offers the sportier look of a 3-door model. There have also been qualitative leaps forward in terms of noise control, vibrations and ride harshness. The new SEAT Ibiza offers the quality of a more luxurious automobile. It’s also agile in the city, efficient on curved roads and offers excellent comfort on long trips. Four trim packages and the most advanced technologyThe new SEAT Ibiza will offer four equipment lines, starting with the Reference followed by the Style trim. The top-of-the-range will be the FR and XCellence trims. The FR trim comes with the most dynamic and technological equipment to enjoy the best performance. Exclusive dynamic design elements have been specifically created for it like, rear diffuser, exclusive front bumper, sport suspension and exclusive exterior black pack. The XCellence trim aims at reaching new customers looking for a more sophisticated and distinctive design combined with more convenient and smart functional equipment. Both trims will have the same price and are intended to offer the best possible options to different types of drivers: FR is for those looking for a sportier car, while XCellence focuses on comfort, elegance and technology. The interior ambient LED lighting for the FR and XCellence versions is offered in two colours, red and white. The use of LED technology for the interior and exterior lights is not an aesthetic whim. LEDs offer much higher quality lighting while saving energy, thus yielding improved fuel economy. The full LED lights on the Ibiza (headlights, dashboard, indicators and rear fog lights) are new in this class. The FR trim includes a stiffer suspension and offers two mode settings, Normal and Sport, to adapt to the driver’s preferences or to the conditions on the road. The XCellence trim will also offer this possibility later on, with a softer setting. The driving assistance systems built into the new Ibiza include elements that, while already present in Leon and Ateca, are quite unusual in this class. The new SEAT Ibiza features Front Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Keyless Entry System with heartbeat engine start button, a new generation of front and rear parking sensors and a rear view camera with a higher quality and precision reflected in a premium 8’’ touchscreen with glass panel. Is the very first time that the SEAT Ibiza has a huge and functional integrated 8’’ touchscreen that offers the best technology without compromising  the interior harmony. In the interior, one of the most outstanding features of the new model is the wireless charger with GSM amplifier. In terms of connectivity, the New SEAT Ibiza is the only car 100% connected thanks to three options:  Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror Link.  SEAT is committed to becoming a front runner in connected cars and developing new mobility solutions where the connected car enhances user experience, making it easier and more flexible. In an environment of disruptive changes, SEAT is eager to deal with the challenges posed by urban infrastructures, traffic systems and vehicles in cities, offering these technologies in most of its vehicles. The New SEAT Ibiza presents a partnership with Beatsaudio soundsystem, a brand bringing energy, emotion and excitement that has changed the way people listen to music. It uses a digital signal processor (DSP), 7 premium speakers and an 8-channel with 300W amplifier.    MQB A0 PlatformThe latest technology from the Volkswagen Group, the MQB platform - Modular Quer Baukasten -, allows higher manufacturing flexibility and robust implementation, as it supports different models and allows for different body types within the same segment and different wheelbase configurations can be achieved within the same base platform. SEAT’s investments and R&D expenditure in recent years were partially allocated to adapt Line 1 at the Martorell factory to the new MQB A0 platform, allowing SEAT to be the first company of the Volkswagen group to use this technology. The number of parts using Hot-Forming technology has been increased, and that contributes to reduce weight and to increase rigidity, therefore improving performance and accounting for lower consumption. In particular for the new Ibiza, 900 robots and more than 4000 welding points guarantee the robustness of the vehicle. Spot welding combined with laser technology bring components together with a great result: A lightweight body with extreme structural stiffness.Design: the next step in SEAT’s DNAThanks to more than three decades of history and its importance as the main pillar in the SEAT brand, the 5th generation of the Ibiza has been a total challenge in terms of design. It had to be fresh and young, and yet mature and balanced too.  And this is how the new SEAT Ibiza stands out straight away; its perfect proportions, strong character and agile look. Its characteristic SEAT brushstrokes have not just been maintained, but taken to the next level, pushing the evolution of SEAT’s design DNA. You only need a glance to feel what the designer sketched when creating the new car and see that this is the best design SEAT has ever come up with in the A0 category. At the front of the car, the triangular Full LED headlights and the iconic daylight graphics make the new SEAT instantly recognisable. The badge is not only displayed proudly on the grille, but is also enhanced by the two characteristic lines on the bonnet, with a slight gap in the chrome frame. The x-shaped design gives great dynamism and incredible visual stability. The front and rear overhangs are very short, with the four wheels situated on the four corners of the car, making the car stable, dynamic and sporty.  The longer wheelbase and window graphics accentuate the size of the new Ibiza, while the double blisters down the length of the car are typically SEAT, giving the car a more expressive, three-dimensional look. The bodywork has been beautifully sculpted, combining sharp lines and smooth surfaces. Its new wheels, up to 18 inches and with two tones to choose from, give an elegant touch. The rear of the car is also typical of the Ibiza. Its rear lights wrap around the car, interacting with the blisters at the rear, properly proportioned within a unique design and offering fantastic aerodynamic performance. The boot’s strong lines and bumpers make the car appear wide and give the car an almost monolithic look, while the rear reflectors appear to bring the car closer to the ground. The FR trim comes with details that bring out its sporty character, such as the exhaust tips either side of the rear bumper. The XCellence trims receive chrome details that emphasise their sophistication and refinement. In terms of the interior, the same design steps have been followed that are now in the SEAT Leon and Ateca, but this time with a new vision for its design language. More tension, more technical and precise lines and lighter proportions have all been added in order to achieve a more elegant look and a greater level of perceived quality, while new materials have managed to safeguard its youthful and dynamic character. Structurally, a special emphasis has been put on its horizontal proportions in the assembly of its different  functional areas, including the elevated console in the interior to improve ergonomic performance and safety. The aim was to achieve perfect proportions and a greater sense of space and comfort. All of the controls and instruments are situated around the driver in the highest position possible to avoid the driver having to take his or her eyes off the road. Just as with the new Leon and Ateca, the start button is in the same place, to the left of the gearbox. This is also in the highest position possible for ease-of-use. Upon analysing the top quality of each and every detail of the new SEAT Ibiza, one cannot help but think of models in higher categories, from the innumerable personalisation possibilities to the possibility of choosing the colour of the interior LED lighting, without forgetting of course the onboard technology, such as the 8-inch touchscreen and the Full Link connectivity system. The cockpit is protected by an Air Care filter that isolates the occupants from any type of allergens, creating a completely contaminant-free space. Its exciting design, its dynamic behaviour and driving quality, the feeling of incredible stability and reliability on the road, vastly improved interior quality, incredibly safe and easy-to-use technology, roomier interior, all combine to make the new SEAT Ibiza, a really attractive option and of course  at the best price. SEAT is the only company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets cars in Spain. A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters in Martorell (Barcelona), exporting more than 80% of its vehicles, and is present in over 75 countries. In 2016, SEAT’s achieved worldwide sales of 410,200 units, the highest result since 2007. SEAT Group employs more than 14,000 professionals at its three production centres – Barcelona, El Prat de Llobregat and Martorell, where it manufactures the highly successful Ibiza and Leon. Additionally, the company produces the Ateca and the Toledo in the Czech Republic, the Alhambra in Portugal and the Mii in Slovakia.  The multinational has a Technical Centre, which operates as a knowledge hub that brings together 1,000 engineers who are focussed on developing innovation for Spain’s largest industrial investor in R&D. SEAT already features the latest connectivity technology in its vehicle range and is currently engaged in the company’s global digitisation process to promote the mobility of the future.

SEAT ATECA NAMED “BEST FOR MODERN FAMILIES” IN TOP GEAR MAGAZINE’S ‘BEST CARS IN THE WORLD’ ISSUE

Judging by the latest issue of Top Gear magazine, the stylish SEAT Ateca, the brand’s first foray into SUV territory, seems to be as adept at attracting plaudits, as it does British customers. Picking up from its first UK award win only a few weeks ago with Auto Express, the SEAT Ateca is now revelling in the glory of being named the “Best for Modern Families” car in the Top Gear Best ‘Cars in the World’ issue. Facing up to stiff competition in an already crowded marketplace, the Ateca provides drivers with the practicality, and value and necessary for a family SUV, while combining the Barcelona-based brand’s impeccable sense of style.  While space is a key feature for families with children, so are driver assistance and infotainment options – anything that can make life that little bit easier. The Ateca, which Top Gear has judged to be the best car for modern families, combines both. Notable features include the wireless phone charger, Full Link technology for seamless smartphone connectivity, a 360-degree parking camera and a Virtual Pedal, which allows the boot to be opened, and closed, hands-free simply by waggling a foot underneath the rear bumper. Charlie Turner, Editor of Top Gear magazine, said, “Families require practicality and safety but we cannot forget style, and the Ateca ticks all the boxes. Great dynamics, strong construction and a comprehensive range of driver-assist and connectivity options make the Ateca a great choice for the modern family.” Commenting on the win, Richard Harrison, Director, SEAT UK, said, “This is fantastic news for our new SEAT Ateca and adds to the great momentum that it has been developing even before its launch in this country. The award is testament to what an enticing all-round package it is for families, as a desirable, high-tech, stylish and well-built SUV.” Top Gear is Britain’s best-selling car magazine and its ‘Best Cars in the World’ issue will be fully available on 30 November 2017.

SEAT ATECA ACHIEVES EURO NCAP FIVE-STAR RATING The SEAT Ateca has received the highest score in the Euro NCAP test programme. The first SUV in the history of the Spanish brand fully demonstrated the high level of safety it offers and was given five stars. The Ateca received an excellent classification in each of the categories included in the Euro NCAP tests, with particular emphasis on adult passenger and child safety, as well as in pedestrian protection and driver assistance systems. This recognition comes ahead of the smartly-styled Ateca reaching UK showrooms this September, the first model in SEAT’s largest ever product offensive which will see four new models roll out in the next 18 months. In addition, the classification has been obtained in a year when the Euro NCAP has increased the number of tests that vehicles must perform and has also set higher standards when making its assessment. In this sense, to verify the level of passenger protection, several new sizes and types of crash test dummies were used, and the number and severity of the testing methods have also increased. The SEAT Ateca’s success in the test programme is owed to its advanced safety systems fitted as standard, which have proved to be highly effective. The new model, which has been wholly designed and developed in Barcelona, features the emergency city and motorway braking system Front Assist with pedestrian recognition, which Euro NCAP has been testing since 2016. In addition, this safety programme also evaluates the lane keeping system, which is available on SEAT Ateca. SEAT’s new SUV, which is set to become the brand’s third pillar next to the Ibiza and the Leon, is equipped with seven airbags as standard, including a driver’s knee airbag, as well as seatbelts with pretensioner and load limiter in the front and rear seats. This latter feature is a great benefit for restraining occupants of all sizes, as the pretensioner keeps the belt snug against the passenger’s torso and pelvis at the moment of an impact, guaranteeing better restraint for both adults and children. The Ateca also features other outstanding safety systems, including Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, 360-degree view with rear camera and Tiredness Recognition System.

SEAT ALHAMBRA HAULS IN TOW CAR AWARD SEAT Alhambra named Best MPV in 2016 Tow Car Awards Judges praise the Alhambra for its practicality, power, stability and capacity to tow large family caravans Award bestowed on 2.0 TDI 184 PS SE Lux model with DSG dual-clutch transmission, part of the latest-generation Alhambra range introduced this spring 2.0 TDI 184 PS ideally suited to towing, mustering a maximum 380 Nm of torque from just 1,750 rpm New SE Lux specification tailored for modern family needs, with features such as power tailgate and rear side door operation, automatic wipers and headlights with High Beam Assist, satellite navigation with 3D mapping, rear seatback tables, underfloor storage, chrome roof rails and 12-way power-adjustable front seats all part of the standard specification Annual Tow Car Awards organised and presented by Practical Caravan, What Car? and the Camping and Caravanning Club magazine The new SEAT Alhambra has pulled off another honour, being named Best MPV in the 2016 Tow Car Awards. It’s a first title for the latest generation of the seven-seat Alhambra, introduced this spring, sustaining its impressive reputation for being the best all-round proposition on the market – a status reflected in more than a dozen independent award titles in recent years. Speaking for the judges, David Motton, Tow Car Editor of Practical Caravan magazine, declared: The SEAT Alhambra is a very good MPV and a very capable tow car. With its combination of a high kerb weight, powerful engine and an extremely flexible cabin, it is a worthy winner. “As a tow car, stability is its stand-out feature. It’s reassuring at 60mph and untroubled at 70mph. Data we gathered from the AL-KO Active Trailer Control system backed up the impression of our drivers, this really is a very secure town car.” The model tested for the award was the £35,190 2.0 TDI 184PS SE Lux with DSG dual-clutch transmission, a version which delivers a perfect all-round package of performance, comfort, safety and quality. It has a top towing capacity of 2.2 tonnes, while its latest-generation TDI engine musters 380 Nm of torque, all the way from 1,750 to 3,000 rpm, giving strong and smooth performance and working with the hassle-free DSG gearbox to deliver the kind of relaxing drive that’s perfect for a long-distance trip, even when fully laden. Superb efficiency is reflected in official combined cycle fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg, with carbon dioxide emissions a modest 139 g/km, even though the powertrain has muscle enough to shift the Alhambra from rest to 62 mph in less than nine seconds. The journey between caravan-hitch to caravan-pitch is made safe, comfortable and convenient in the high specification SE Lux, which includes family holiday-friendly features such as power-operated rear side doors and tailgate, chrome-finished roof rails, underfloor storage, rear seatback tables and a panoramic roof with opening front section. Satellite navigation with dynamic route guidance is included in the Media System Plus infotainment package, together with Bluetooth, DAB and integrated voice control. Up front the leather-upholstered sports-style seats are 12-way power-adjustable and the triple-zone climate control. Automatic headlight and windscreen wiper operation, reversing camera, triple-zone climate control and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror are featured, together with an impressive array of active and passive safety systems, including High Beam Assist, and SEAT’s Multi-Collision Braking and Tiredness Recognition systems. Steve Catlin, SEAT UK’s Head of Sales Operations, said: “The Tow Car Award is a great accolade for the latest Alhambra and recognition for the way we’ve continued developing it to give customers the best possible all-round package. Not only does it have all the strength and stability required for effortless towing, it’s also ideally equipped to cater for families on the move and designed with the sporting flair that defines our brand.” The Tow Car Awards, now in their tenth year, are organised and presented by Practical Caravan, What Car? and the Camping and Caravanning Club magazine.
