ABARTH CELEBRATES 70 YEARS OF HISTORY AT THE 2019 GENEVA INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

At the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, the Scorpion brand celebrates its 70th anniversary. Featured on this year’s stand will be the new Abarth 595 esseesse and the Abarth 124 Rally Tribute limited edition, both authentic expressions of the brand's racing soul and its glorious past in motorsport. The 595 esseesse is a homage to the legendary Sixties tuning kit, successfully reprised back in 2009 on the Abarth 500 while the 124 Rally Tribute, is an acknowledgement to the Abarth 124 rally, after an enormously successful season culminating in victory in the FIA R-GT Cup and the European Rally Championship in 2018. New Abarth 595 esseesseThe stunning Abarth 595 esseesse is back, breathing new life into a name deeply rooted in the brand's history, when tuning kits designed to boost the performance of mass production cars made Karl Abarth's fortune as the inventor. 1964 saw the debut of the first Abarth 595 esseesse, tuned with the aid of a Solex 34 PBIC carburettor and a special intake manifold, cast in a single piece of light alloy with the valve cover, boosting its power to 32hp. On the outside, the car was recognisable by the rubber ties securing the bonnet instead of the usual lock and the enamelled Abarth logo. Inside, the "mean little Scorpion" displayed distinctive badges, with the "SS" monogram in capital letters on the bonnet and boot, and "esseesse" in full on the dashboard. It was an immediate success with Italian sports car enthusiasts. This success was repeated in 2009 by the “esseesse” tuning kit for the Abarth 500, which appeared in 2008. The tuning increased the engine's power to 160hp and modified the suspension setup, with Eibach lowering springs, alongside a higher-powered braking system and other racing-inspired content. Today, 10 years later, the iconic “esseesse” returns to the top of the Abarth range, and is equipped with the brand's most powerful 180hp engine.  In the best Abarth tradition, this 595 is made truly special by standard equipment that provides an exciting driving experience, always accompanied by the unmistakable deep roar of the Abarth by Akrapovic exhaust system, which combines outstanding performance with an exciting sound. The new Abarth 595 esseesse also features a high-performance Brembo front braking system, with perforated, ventilated front brake discs and oversize red brake calipers. The braking system is able to realign the brake pads with the disc's braking surface, for rapid heat dispersal and improved response when braking. The new Abarth 595 esseesse is identified by 17-inch Supersport alloy wheels with a new Racing White finish, Abarth side stripes, mirror caps and matching front and rear DAM. Also standard is an air filter “by BMC”, providing better intake air flow capacity with obvious benefits for engine combustion quality, power output and performance. The new Abarth 595 esseesse's equipment is completed by Koni FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) rear suspension. The 595 includes navigation with the 7-inch Uconnect HD touchscreen system, including Abarth Telemetry, Apple CarPlay support and Android AutoTM compatibility* as standard. *Android Auto, Google Play and Google Maps are trademarks of Google LLC. Apple CarPlay is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. The Abarth 595 esseesse's racing personality is clearly expressed by “Sabelt 70” sports seats with carbon rear shell, and the carbon pedals. What's more, a whole new range of Sabelt seats is now available on the 595, marking Abarth's 70th birthday with the number 70 embroidered on the cover. These seats are even further improved in their shapes, inserts and padding, for an even more intense driving experience. This new Abarth features the “esseesse” badge which, together with the "70th anniversary" logo, makes this sports car truly unique and exclusive. Full UK specification will be released in the coming weeks. Abarth 124 Rally TributeThe Geneva show hosts the global debut of the new Abarth 124 Rally Tribute, celebrating the "124 rally" racing car's triumph in the 2018 FIA R-GT Cup, as well as 40 class victories in the 12 national championships in which it competed. Produced in a limited edition of just 124 cars and not destined for the UK, the new Abarth 124 Rally includes as standard, a commemorative badge on the mudguards and inside the cockpit, as well as a numbered metal plaque. The exclusive stylistic characterisation and generous standard equipment transform this car into an emblem of the brand's core values: performance, craftsman-like care and technical excellence. The new Abarth 124 Rally Tribute is available in two bodywork colours, Costa Brava Red and Turini White, both combined with matte black bonnet, a reference to the historic Abarth 124 Rally. In addition, the mirror caps and DAM are in gunmetal grey with Costa Brava Red livery, or Racing Red with Turini White paintwork. Lifestyle  Abarth will present its new licensing collaboration projects, which evoke the brand’s values and pay homage to the Scorpion’s 70th anniversary.  The two new products on show at the Geneva Motor Show were created especially to mark the 70th anniversary of the Abarth brand: A titan chronograph watch by Breil, with unmistakable Abarth band and the iconic celebratory Scorpion emblem. The new Ixoost HIFI audio system with integrated Bluetooth™ amplifier connected to the replica of the famous Record Monza exhaust, will also be on display.

ABARTH 124 RALLY KICKS OFF THE 2019 SEASON WITH A WIN AT MONTE CARLO

The 2019 racing season began with a resounding success for Abarth in the FIA R-GT Cup in the Monte Carlo Rally.  Driven by Italians Enrico Brazzoli and Manuel Fenoli, the Abarth 124 rally reasserted its position as the GT to beat in its category, having taken the title in 2018.  The Monte Carlo Rally once again lived up to its claim of being a challenging race, with drivers finding it necessary to use spiked winter tyres for most timed stages.  They managed to switch to dry tyres for the final leg, which included two crossings of the legendary Col de Turini. Crew and car took the 2019 edition of the Monte Carlo Rally in their stride and dominated the category from beginning to end. Brazzoli, driving the Abarth 124 rally for the first time in a race, kept up a good pace and increased his lead over his opponents in the icy conditions. "We are very excited", Brazzoli said on the finish line. "This is a great result. We planned everything down to the last detail with Bernini and Abarth and are proud to have completed in this first race. My feeling with the car grew mile after mile. The Abarth 124 rally is fun to drive and very competitive. The special stages of the Monte Carlo Rally are always difficult, but we managed to get back to Monaco without problems". The next race of the season for Brazzoli will be the Rallye Tour de Corse, the second stage of the FIA R-GT Cup at the end of March.  Abarth is also organising a single-brand championship with six races in the European Championship calendar (the first in Spain on 3 May, 2019) with the Abarth 124 rally. The 2019 Abarth 124 rally implements a host of technical modifications engineered to accentuate competitiveness and handling by the race engineers. These improvements are the result of meticulous development work carried out by test driver Alex Fiorio.

Abarth 695 Rivale: Abarth performance - Riva elegance

From the combination of two Italian greats in the fields of technology, innovation, care over detail and the quest for performance, the Abarth 695 Rivale is born, the special series conceived in partnership with Riva. This historical brand of the nautical world, which has always been synonymous with Italian elegance and style, contributed to creating the most sophisticated Abarth ever.  Available in a limited series of sedan and cabriolet versions, the Abarth 695 Rivale can be recognised by its exclusive livery: two-tone Riva Sera Blue and Shark Grey paintwork, embellished with an aquamarine double stripe that runs at waistline height, resembling the "beauty line" on yachts. The satin chrome finish on the door handles, the "695 Rivale" name on the tailgate and rear bumpers, the satin chrome moulding on the tailgate, which evokes the sophisticated shapes of a yacht, making this model even more unmistakable thanks to its aesthetic affinity with the side grilles on the new Riva yachts. So much charm comes from the usual quest for better performance through the constant technical upgrading that characterises every Abarth car: in fact, under the bonnet of the 695 Rivale, hides a 1368 cm3 engine, which guarantees a maximum power of 180 HP and a torque of 250 Nm. The power-to-weight ratio of the 695 Rivale is that of a real supercar (5.8 kg/HP with a mass of 1045 kg) and its performance is extraordinary: a maximum speed of 225 km/h and 6.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. It is, therefore, a car that can satisfy sophisticated customers looking for elegance, sophistication and performance. Together with the Abarth 695 Rivale, the 695 Rivale 175 Anniversary is also unveiled to celebrate 175 years of the Riva brand, which was founded in 1842. This "ultra-limited edition" accentuates the handcrafted finishes by adding customised elements, special wheel rims, celebratory logos and hand-finished blue and black leather front seats. 175 sedan and 175 cabriolet versions are available. A car for hot asphalt that comes from the water The aim of the 695 Rivale is to exceed Abarth's traditional values and embrace Riva's unmistakable charm to satisfy the need for exciting performance combined with a higher level of sophistication and elegance. Its style is inspired by the very new open Riva "56 Rivale", one of the most agile and efficient yachts ever built by the boatyard in Sarnico. Traits that it has in common with the 695 Rivale, which also borrows some of Riva's typical stylistic aspects to highlight the concept of elegance and character that sets it apart. In fact, the yacht and the car share some aesthetic elements, like Riva's characteristic grey livery and the satin chrome mouldings. Inside, the carbon fibre kick plates, blue leather seats and interior door panels, black mats with blue inserts and the carbon fibre or mahogany dashboard are variants available on request to give the car even more nautical look. Wood - the most natural of materials - is combined with most advanced technological solutions for a result of absolute excellence, just like on Riva yachts: the perfect combination of ultimate technology and expert craftsmanship. The mahogany variant allows you to embrace the Riva philosophy in greater depth: in addition to the dashboard strip, the special steering wheel is covered in blue and black leather with a mahogany badge, blue leather instrument panel cover and mahogany gear lever knob and kick plate. The technological content is also excellent: as standard there is UconnectTM infotainment with a 7" HD touch screen, ready for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a hand-written numbered plate, which can be customised with the mane of your yacht on request: an original way of making the new Abarth 695 Rivale into a high performance land tender. Finally, the Abarth character is clearly visible in the Akrapovi? exhaust system with carbon tail pipes, in the Brembo brakes with black, 4-piston fixed callipers at the front, in the 17" Supersport alloy rims with special gloss grey finish and in the Abarth by Koni suspension with FSD (Frequency-Selective Damping) technology. Thanks to its unique features, the Abarth 695 Rivale is an Instant Classic, with everything needed to become part of the tight circle of the Abarth Register, which only includes the most exclusive cars with the technical or historical requirements to make them "collector's pieces". A tribute to Riva's 175 years Abarth and Riva share a rich history, and consistently work on their heritage to shape their future. The stories of Carlo Abarth and Carlo Riva are two great Italian stories, of two men who had a dream, and who made it into a legend. Both of them had the courage to push their thoughts beyond the usual mould, thereby giving the world cars and boats of absolute excellence that over time have become global icons. In 2017 Riva celebrates 175 years, a threshold that very few companies in the world can boast. To celebrate this special birthday, Abarth has come up with an ultra-limited production of the 695 Rivale, the 175 Anniversary: 175 sedans and 175 cabriolets. It is an edition to celebrate Italian know-how, with hand crafted details like the two-colour blue and black hand-stitched leather seats with a celebratory logo stitched onto the headrest, the carbon dashboard silk screen printed with the special logo, the special numbered plate inside and the celebratory badge on the outside of the pillar. The design of the 17" alloy rims is also special. To find out more, contact us today.
