ABARTH CELEBRATES 70 YEARS OF HISTORY AT THE 2019 GENEVA INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW

At the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, the Scorpion brand celebrates its 70th anniversary. Featured on this year’s stand will be the new Abarth 595 esseesse and the Abarth 124 Rally Tribute limited edition, both authentic expressions of the brand's racing soul and its glorious past in motorsport. The 595 esseesse is a homage to the legendary Sixties tuning kit, successfully reprised back in 2009 on the Abarth 500 while the 124 Rally Tribute, is an acknowledgement to the Abarth 124 rally, after an enormously successful season culminating in victory in the FIA R-GT Cup and the European Rally Championship in 2018. New Abarth 595 esseesseThe stunning Abarth 595 esseesse is back, breathing new life into a name deeply rooted in the brand's history, when tuning kits designed to boost the performance of mass production cars made Karl Abarth's fortune as the inventor. 1964 saw the debut of the first Abarth 595 esseesse, tuned with the aid of a Solex 34 PBIC carburettor and a special intake manifold, cast in a single piece of light alloy with the valve cover, boosting its power to 32hp. On the outside, the car was recognisable by the rubber ties securing the bonnet instead of the usual lock and the enamelled Abarth logo. Inside, the "mean little Scorpion" displayed distinctive badges, with the "SS" monogram in capital letters on the bonnet and boot, and "esseesse" in full on the dashboard. It was an immediate success with Italian sports car enthusiasts. This success was repeated in 2009 by the “esseesse” tuning kit for the Abarth 500, which appeared in 2008. The tuning increased the engine's power to 160hp and modified the suspension setup, with Eibach lowering springs, alongside a higher-powered braking system and other racing-inspired content. Today, 10 years later, the iconic “esseesse” returns to the top of the Abarth range, and is equipped with the brand's most powerful 180hp engine.  In the best Abarth tradition, this 595 is made truly special by standard equipment that provides an exciting driving experience, always accompanied by the unmistakable deep roar of the Abarth by Akrapovic exhaust system, which combines outstanding performance with an exciting sound. The new Abarth 595 esseesse also features a high-performance Brembo front braking system, with perforated, ventilated front brake discs and oversize red brake calipers. The braking system is able to realign the brake pads with the disc's braking surface, for rapid heat dispersal and improved response when braking. The new Abarth 595 esseesse is identified by 17-inch Supersport alloy wheels with a new Racing White finish, Abarth side stripes, mirror caps and matching front and rear DAM. Also standard is an air filter “by BMC”, providing better intake air flow capacity with obvious benefits for engine combustion quality, power output and performance. The new Abarth 595 esseesse's equipment is completed by Koni FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) rear suspension. The 595 includes navigation with the 7-inch Uconnect HD touchscreen system, including Abarth Telemetry, Apple CarPlay support and Android AutoTM compatibility* as standard. *Android Auto, Google Play and Google Maps are trademarks of Google LLC. Apple CarPlay is a registered trademark of Apple Inc. The Abarth 595 esseesse's racing personality is clearly expressed by “Sabelt 70” sports seats with carbon rear shell, and the carbon pedals. What's more, a whole new range of Sabelt seats is now available on the 595, marking Abarth's 70th birthday with the number 70 embroidered on the cover. These seats are even further improved in their shapes, inserts and padding, for an even more intense driving experience. This new Abarth features the “esseesse” badge which, together with the "70th anniversary" logo, makes this sports car truly unique and exclusive. Full UK specification will be released in the coming weeks. Abarth 124 Rally TributeThe Geneva show hosts the global debut of the new Abarth 124 Rally Tribute, celebrating the "124 rally" racing car's triumph in the 2018 FIA R-GT Cup, as well as 40 class victories in the 12 national championships in which it competed. Produced in a limited edition of just 124 cars and not destined for the UK, the new Abarth 124 Rally includes as standard, a commemorative badge on the mudguards and inside the cockpit, as well as a numbered metal plaque. The exclusive stylistic characterisation and generous standard equipment transform this car into an emblem of the brand's core values: performance, craftsman-like care and technical excellence. The new Abarth 124 Rally Tribute is available in two bodywork colours, Costa Brava Red and Turini White, both combined with matte black bonnet, a reference to the historic Abarth 124 Rally. In addition, the mirror caps and DAM are in gunmetal grey with Costa Brava Red livery, or Racing Red with Turini White paintwork. Lifestyle  Abarth will present its new licensing collaboration projects, which evoke the brand’s values and pay homage to the Scorpion’s 70th anniversary.  The two new products on show at the Geneva Motor Show were created especially to mark the 70th anniversary of the Abarth brand: A titan chronograph watch by Breil, with unmistakable Abarth band and the iconic celebratory Scorpion emblem. The new Ixoost HIFI audio system with integrated Bluetooth™ amplifier connected to the replica of the famous Record Monza exhaust, will also be on display.

Only 150 of the hot Leon CUPRA R ST special editions will be available in the UK market, with ordering opening on 9 April. The 2.0 TSI 300PS will have an on-the-road price of £37,975 – but for just £500 customers can upgrade to 370PS with the addition of an ABT tuning pack. Insurance rated and with no impact on the homologation status of the car, it will reduce the 0-62mph figure to 4.5 seconds. With high specification as standard, the special edition comes with quad exhaust, Brembo brakes, bucket seats and KESSY. Copper accents and carbon fibre detailing add to the premium external appeal, and upgraded models will feature ABT detailing on the rear badge. A panoramic sunroof can be added to the specification for £800. Exceptional styling and performanceThe Leon CUPRA R ST brings uniqueness, sophistication and performance to the market, mixing the qualities expected of a Leon with the high-performance attributes of the CUPRA brand. This model is set to stand out from the crowd, bringing together the high performance of its 300PS/400Nm 2.0 litre TSI engine and the dynamic traction from its 4Drive system. The Leon CUPRA R ST perfectly balances dynamism, comfort, and versatility in a body-style that adds practicality to the mix. Its highly tuned turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engine linked to a seven-speed DSG transmission means the Leon CUPRA R ST 300PS can hit 62 mph (100km/h) in just 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph (250km/h). The performance is accessible and manageable thanks to the vehicle’s advanced 4Drive drive system, with an accomplished ride quality due to the specific CUPRA dynamic chassis setup. In order to improve cornering speed and handling performance, new uprights have been added to the front axle that modifies the negative camber (2º); the rear negative camber is also at 2º. The performance is matched by the distinctive CUPRA sound from the quad exhaust pipes at the rear of the vehicle giving drivers a sound as well as a visceral experience from behind the steering wheel. Even at first glance the Leon CUPRA R ST distinguishes itself from the competition with a compelling exterior design. The newly developed lateral air intakes with copper colour treatment give a subtle indication of the vehicle’s heritage. Add to this the extensive use of carbon fibre to maximise the Leon CUPRA R ST’s performance and aesthetics – the front splitter, the new rear spoiler, the side skirts and the rear diffuser all benefit from the material – and the car’s confidence becomes increasingly apparent. The Leon CUPRA R ST’s striking exterior appearance is amplified by an arresting choice of colours: Magnetic Tech, Midnight Black, Nevada White or Blackness Grey – an exclusive exterior colour for the vehicle. Copper logos and badges also emphasise the Leon CUPRA R ST’s credentials, with the same tone used on its exclusive 19” alloy rims with copper hub caps which frame the front Brembo brakes – another hint to its overall performance. “The Leon CUPRA R ST represents our ability to make unique, exciting cars with the most advanced technology ready for the most demanding and diverse of drivers. It’s the amalgamation of the brand’s experience in motor racing and the ability of our design and engineering teams to seamlessly mix performance and functionality,” said Antonino Labate, director of Strategy, Business Development and Operations of CUPRA. Inside, illuminated aluminium plaques welcome the driver and passenger. The interior lining of the doors is finished in fabric with carbon fibre look. Copper accents continue inside on the climate control vents, the central console, on the logo on the steering wheel and on the stitching of the bucket seats and steering wheel. Both the steering wheel and gear knob are upholstered in Alcantara® to provide a plush, tactile finish. Both driver and front passenger are cocooned in sports bucket seats that provide the maximum amount of comfort on longer journeys and keep you secure when the driving style becomes more enthusiastic. Behind the steering wheel, after pressing the start button, the welcome splash screen shows an exclusive CUPRA R ST display on the central console’s 8” colour screen. And once in motion the driver is given all the information and driving data they need from the pixel-dense Digital Cockpit, meaning they can remain focused on the art of driving with minimal distraction. While the Leon CUPRA R ST is designed as a high-performance vehicle it also supplies the necessary levels of comfort and convenience that modern life necessitates: keyless entry and front and rear view cameras are included as standard. In a world that requires us to remain connected, the Leon CUPRA R ST integrates the latest connectivity suite meaning drivers can link their mobile devices to the car and benefit from selected apps and increased functionality.

HYUNDAI MOTOR CELEBRATES LAUNCH OF NEW TUCSON N LINE WITH UNIQUE ART PROJECT

Hyundai Motor is offering customers a growing range of attractive N choices. With the launch of the New Tucson N Line, they’ll be able to drive the brand’s first SUV with the sporty N look and feel. To mark the occasion, Hyundai enlisted German artist Andreas Preis to create the ‘Drive A Statement’ Project Tucson, a unique illustration on a New Tucson N Line.  The New Tucson N Line combines the popular design, safety and comfort of Tucson with the motorsport-inspired dynamic styling and attitude of N Line. With its sportier, aggressive design elements, the model is aimed at people who want to “drive a statement” that is sophisticated, yet bold. For this special occasion, Hyundai chose to work with Andreas Preis as he is renowned for his multi-faceted works of art. He specialises in illustration, murals and live paintings and likes to draw and paint portraits of abstract shapes and ornaments through a range of different mediums including paper, canvas, walls and wood. Hyundai asked Preis to create a truly eye-catching design that turns the New Tucson N Line into a real statement, while emphasising the car’s new features. It is inspired by Hyundai N’s heritage, and takes many cues from motorsport, with references to corners, chicanes, curbs and chequered flags, as well as the livery of Hyundai’s i20 Coupe WRC and i30 N TCR models. The visual elements and lines also create a dynamic, fast look, especially along the sides of the car.  The base colour of the illustration is Engine Red, and the artist has utilised the N Line colour palette of black, white, red and light blue. Preis’ design highlights key aspects of the model, such as its more aggressive and sporty front, which includes a new grille design, refined daytime running lights and new black-bezel headlamps. It also draws attention to the car’s elegant glossy black accents on the side mirrors and rear spoiler, as well as the dark alloy wheels and N Line badge. After designing the illustration, Preis transferred the work onto the car by hand with great attention to detail, with the whole production taking 72 hours of painting.  “I was very excited to be asked by Hyundai to create an illustration on a New Tucson N Line. It is not every day you get to create an art work where a complete car is the canvas. With this project, I was able to turn the car into a statement of my own,” says Andreas Preis, artist and creator of the ‘Drive A Statement’ Project Tucson.  “With the New Tucson N Line, we are appealing to a new customer base compared to the regular version. We therefore wanted Andreas Preis to create the ‘Drive A Statement’ Project Tucson to demonstrate that this is a special new model for Hyundai. I believe he has achieved this, and it fits perfectly with our claim that you are driving a statement. We will soon be displaying this unique car at events around Europe,” says Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President Marketing and Product Hyundai Motor Europe.  New Tucson N Line: a family SUV with Hyundai N sportiness The Tucson N Line is the first Hyundai SUV with the sporty N Line look and feel. Available in three powertrain variants, the model provides customers with the option to choose a family-friendly vehicle that suits their daily driving needs.  The new trim features exterior and interior elements inspired by N, Hyundai’s high-performance range. The dynamic design features are complemented on the two petrol models by refined chassis and suspension settings to customers can experience a more sporty drive feel.  In the interior, consumers can enjoy N-branded leather sport seats and a sport steering wheel. Other enhancements include alloy pedals and the leather-wrapped, red-accented N gear shift lever.

The New Alfa Romeo Tonale Concept Car - Electrification meets beauty and dynamism

Alfa Romeo launches into the electric car world with the Tonale mid-sized SUV concept. The Tonale is the first plug-in hybrid and the first mid-size utility vehicle from Alfa Romeo. It rewrites the rules of today's fastest growing segment using the manufacturer's trademark combination of unique Italian style and unparalleled driving pleasure. The design of the Tonale is an expression that looks fondly into the future. Its compact dimensions embody unique Italian design and the unmistakable Alfa Romeo style, showcasing the future evolution of the brand. Its design recalls a number of time-honoured design elements that are synonymous with the rich history of the brand, with an execution that excites a modern approach to the new Alfa Romeo anatomy. An element that echoes the tradition of the Alfa Romeo DNA is the 21-inch telephone dial wheels with exclusive Pirelli tyres. The lineage of the telephone dial wheels dates back to the 1960’s, worn proudly by the iconic 33 Stradale. The bold, elegant volumes of the body make reference to a seemingly distant past, recalling the stylish qualities of the Duetto and the Disco Volante Spider, while the Tonale’s “Linea GT” interprets the confidence and stance found on the beloved GT Junior. The front end sports the Alfa Romeo signature “Trilobo” and the distinctive “Scudetto” grille that serves as the central point of strength, driving the speed and fluidity that moves throughout the Tonale.  Completing the front end is the “3 plus 3” headlights that evoke the proud gaze reflective of the SZ and Brera. The rear of the Tonale is elegantly defined by an enveloping window volume, complemented by the suspended wing that enhances the continuity between the transparent roof and the rear window itself. Alfa Romeo holds dear the essence of Italian art and sculpture, through the timeless “artigianale” experience of hand sculpting. As every Alfa Romeo design is cared for through the human touch, the rear lighting is reminiscent of an artistic signature, rather than an optical lighting element, a sort of luminous signature born directly from the artist’s hand.  With the inspiration of Alfa Romeo’s history of racing at the core, the Tonale interior design conjures the passion associated with providing a spirited drive through dynamic form and pure sculpture. The interior of the Tonale is very driver oriented, but not egoistic, as the layout is designed comfortably for 4 passengers. The hand-drawn gestural lines stretch throughout the environment to create a muscular tension, as if what surrounds you is poised for action. The emotional significance of the Tonale interior is also generated by the contrast of rich materials, such as the cold solidity of aluminum combined with the soft and welcoming warmth of the leather and Alcantara. Inside there are translucent backlit panels, such as the central tunnel, providing the perfect location for the Alfa Romeo DNA drive mode selector. The Tonale interior is immersive and welcoming, with the dynamic attributes appreciated by those who love to drive. The Tonale concept vehicle is equipped with the highest standards of technology to ensure a connected, comfortable and dynamic user experience, while keeping the pleasure of a sporty drive at the forefront.  The driver's attention will remain on the road, with the peripheral focus on a 12.3-inch full digital cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen central head unit. The new infotainment features a seamless and fluid multitasking interface that allows the driver to have all the latest features and functionality readily available at their fingertips. The Tonale allows the driver to be fully connected to the Alfa Romeo lifestyle and social communities, realised and presented through the new infotainment features, “Alfista” and “Paddock”. "Alfista” is an immersive Alfa Romeo lifestyle experience, providing a fully connected interface with select Alfa Romeo clubs and community events, such as gatherings, drives and meets. This in-vehicle app allows the driver access to live news and updates about the current happenings of the Alfa Romeo brand. “Paddock” is the Alfa Romeo Tonale in-vehicle garage and market for real-time viewing and purchasing of the latest interior and exterior performance upgrades and equipment. The Paddock app also enables the customer to scroll through the latest offerings from the Alfa Romeo merchandise and apparel collection, which can be ordered direct with the touch of the screen.  The Tonale marks the debut of the brand in the mid-size utility vehicle segment and does so in line with the characteristics that have always identified each Alfa Romeo model. The goal is to deliver the best driving dynamics in the segment and to apply electrification in perfect Alfa Romeo style. It is the natural evolution of the brand on the way towards propulsive synergy capable of enhancing performance and driving dynamics. Rather than simply adapting to new standards, with the Tonale concept car Alfa Romeo is reinterpreting its own DNA to capture the new idea of beauty, energy, harmony, efficiency and driving user-friendliness. The electrification of Alfa Romeo comes at the service of sportiness and emphasises the famous "Mechanics of Emotions" mission of the brand. For this reason, it has no need to express itself through signatures or decided livery, but just with small details such as the Alfa logo in hybrid optics, a small yet definitive detail that enhances the Tonale. The rear electric engine opens the way to new technological solutions that offer enhanced driving dynamics, to maximise the pleasure of sporty driving. The evolution is also evident in the drive modes managed by Alfa D.N.A. From the beginning on Giulietta, Mito and 4C, and through the development of Giulia and Stelvio, it has reached the Tonale and now implements specific energy management functions. With Tonale, the "Dynamic" mode evolves into "Dual Power" and guarantees the maximum output from the two engines. The infotainment touch screen features an E-mozione button, which offers specific throttle settings, sharper braking and more direct steering response. "Natural" mode continues to maintain the best performance optimisation, and the compromise between using electric and internal combustion engines is managed automatically. This translates into everyday energy and fuel savings, but not at the detriment of performance. The “Advance Efficiency” mode becomes “Advance E” for performance in full electric mode. So, in line with the principles of the brand, the plug-in hybrid propulsion enhances the beauty, sporty and dynamic driving characteristics of each Alfa Romeo model, taking them to a new level. In Tonale, electrification embraces performance and represents a new way to achieve high performance and outstanding driving fun.   Alfa Romeo Tonale The Tonale embodies the adventure potential of a mid-size, dynamic sport utility vehicle capable of guaranteeing the adrenaline of sporty driving, inherent in the legend of the brand, in urban settings with the same ease. The hum of the electric motor accompanies the genuinely Alfa Romeo roar creating an efficient, exciting synergy at the service of driving pleasure. The energy switch to electric is the latest key page in the 109-year-long history of the Alfa Romeo legend and one which will propel the brand into the future. This is also behind the name chosen for the new concept car. The Tonale Pass, not far from the Stelvio Pass in the Alps, is a large natural amphitheatre famous for its majestic peaks, the natural spectacle of frothy waterfalls and snow all year round in a breath-taking natural setting.
