UK ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF ITS FASTEST-EVER SEAT WITH LIMITED EDITION 370PS LEON CUPRA R ST

SEAT UK has announced the fastest-ever CUPRA with the launch of the special edition Leon CUPRA R ST, which can be specced to produce an exceptional 370PS output. Only 150 of the hot Leon CUPRA R ST special editions will be available in the UK market, with ordering opening on 9 April. The 2.0 TSI 300PS will have an on-the-road price of £37,975 – but for just £500 customers can upgrade to 370PS with the addition of an ABT tuning pack. Insurance rated and with no impact on the homologation status of the car, it will reduce the 0-62mph figure to 4.5 seconds. With high specification as standard, the special edition comes with quad exhaust, Brembo brakes, bucket seats and KESSY. Copper accents and carbon fibre detailing add to the premium external appeal, and upgraded models will feature ABT detailing on the rear badge. A panoramic sunroof can be added to the specification for £800. Exceptional styling and performanceThe Leon CUPRA R ST brings uniqueness, sophistication and performance to the market, mixing the qualities expected of a Leon with the high-performance attributes of the CUPRA brand. This model is set to stand out from the crowd, bringing together the high performance of its 300PS/400Nm 2.0 litre TSI engine and the dynamic traction from its 4Drive system. The Leon CUPRA R ST perfectly balances dynamism, comfort, and versatility in a body-style that adds practicality to the mix. Its highly tuned turbocharged, direct-injection petrol engine linked to a seven-speed DSG transmission means the Leon CUPRA R ST 300PS can hit 62 mph (100km/h) in just 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph (250km/h). The performance is accessible and manageable thanks to the vehicle’s advanced 4Drive drive system, with an accomplished ride quality due to the specific CUPRA dynamic chassis setup. In order to improve cornering speed and handling performance, new uprights have been added to the front axle that modifies the negative camber (2º); the rear negative camber is also at 2º. The performance is matched by the distinctive CUPRA sound from the quad exhaust pipes at the rear of the vehicle giving drivers a sound as well as a visceral experience from behind the steering wheel. Even at first glance the Leon CUPRA R ST distinguishes itself from the competition with a compelling exterior design. The newly developed lateral air intakes with copper colour treatment give a subtle indication of the vehicle’s heritage. Add to this the extensive use of carbon fibre to maximise the Leon CUPRA R ST’s performance and aesthetics – the front splitter, the new rear spoiler, the side skirts and the rear diffuser all benefit from the material – and the car’s confidence becomes increasingly apparent. The Leon CUPRA R ST’s striking exterior appearance is amplified by an arresting choice of colours: Magnetic Tech, Midnight Black, Nevada White or Blackness Grey – an exclusive exterior colour for the vehicle. Copper logos and badges also emphasise the Leon CUPRA R ST’s credentials, with the same tone used on its exclusive 19” alloy rims with copper hub caps which frame the front Brembo brakes – another hint to its overall performance. “The Leon CUPRA R ST represents our ability to make unique, exciting cars with the most advanced technology ready for the most demanding and diverse of drivers. It’s the amalgamation of the brand’s experience in motor racing and the ability of our design and engineering teams to seamlessly mix performance and functionality,” said Antonino Labate, director of Strategy, Business Development and Operations of CUPRA. Inside, illuminated aluminium plaques welcome the driver and passenger. The interior lining of the doors is finished in fabric with carbon fibre look. Copper accents continue inside on the climate control vents, the central console, on the logo on the steering wheel and on the stitching of the bucket seats and steering wheel. Both the steering wheel and gear knob are upholstered in Alcantara® to provide a plush, tactile finish. Both driver and front passenger are cocooned in sports bucket seats that provide the maximum amount of comfort on longer journeys and keep you secure when the driving style becomes more enthusiastic. Behind the steering wheel, after pressing the start button, the welcome splash screen shows an exclusive CUPRA R ST display on the central console’s 8” colour screen. And once in motion the driver is given all the information and driving data they need from the pixel-dense Digital Cockpit, meaning they can remain focused on the art of driving with minimal distraction. While the Leon CUPRA R ST is designed as a high-performance vehicle it also supplies the necessary levels of comfort and convenience that modern life necessitates: keyless entry and front and rear view cameras are included as standard. In a world that requires us to remain connected, the Leon CUPRA R ST integrates the latest connectivity suite meaning drivers can link their mobile devices to the car and benefit from selected apps and increased functionality.

World premiere of SEAT el-Born

SEAT el-Born will make its first appearance in front of the world’s media at the Volkswagen Group night on Monday 4 March, before its public debut at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show.   “Mobility is evolving and with it, the cars we drive. SEAT is at the forefront of this change, and the el-Born concept embodies the technologies and design philosophy that will help us meet the challenges we face in the future,” said Luca de Meo, President of SEAT. SEAT el-Born is the first 100 per cent electric vehicle based on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform. The vehicle is designed and developed in Barcelona and will be manufactured at the Zwickau plant in Germany; SEAT will be the second brand to introduce an all-electric vehicle based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. The car is expected to hit markets by 2020. Designed to drive The SEAT el-Born is designed to drive. Its dynamic proportions are enabled by its electric powertrain, pushing the wheels to the four corners of the vehicle and allowing a more vibrant and energetic stance compared to traditionally powered cars. “el-Born is the ultimate translation of our emotional SEAT design language into the new world of electrical vehicles. Our design team has taken very seriously the challenge of making our first full electric vehicle attractive. I believe that driving electric cars has to be thrilling, has to be fun. We have to make customers fall in love with the idea of the electric car,” said Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, Director of Design at SEAT. It embodies the future of vehicle design in a modern and integrated way, emphasised most acutely at the front of the vehicle. Aerodynamics are key to maximising the vehicle’s range, to this end the SEAT logo on the front is flush to the body, where there is no need to take in air to cool the engine so no demand for a grille. Cooling vents are placed lower down the vehicle’s front, providing air to the battery pack and so streamlining air flow over the front of the vehicle. As the eye moves over the SEAT el-Born, the position of the A-pillar has noticeably moved further forward, creating a sleeker look, and internally, more room in the cabin. This is facilitated by the electric powertrain requiring less room. Improved aerodynamics play an enormous role along the side of the vehicle, with an air curtain incorporated into the design, an elegant yet practical answer to the conundrum of balancing performance with aesthetic appeal. This is perhaps highlighted in no better way than at the wheels. With 20” wheels, the need to maximise performance was crucial. The turbine design creates a positive flow of air that not only improves aerodynamics but also ventilates the brakes to maintain dynamism. The wheels provide the perfect balance between aerodynamics, heat evacuation and lightness. At the rear of the vehicle a double layer spoiler contributes to the aerodynamic performance of the SEAT el-Born too, making sure that air flow remains smooth and turbulence is minimised. It also provides an awareness of the vehicle’s dynamic and performance virtues. Inside, space is maximised thanks to the all-electric powertrain, giving the opportunity to offer a completely new experience. The sculpted cabin gives a feeling of lightness and floatability, but also technological advancement, with the integration of the digital cockpit, a 10” infotainment and connectivity screen perched in the centre of the dashboard. Once inside, the immediate focus is on the driver, with all the lines in the dashboard pointing towards whoever is behind the steering wheel. Space is no longer a premium inside the cabin, with all occupants enjoying more room to relax into their cocooning seats, thanks to the increased internal proportions, but the space is also used to maximise practicality and functionality. There is also greater storage space too; the ability to stow a bag between the two front seats is a simple and effective example of this maximised capacity. Powered to perform SEAT el-Born is a true game changer in the market with performance that matches the customers desire and the necessity of real world driving, unlike any vehicle has before now. With a power output of up to 150kW (204PS) the vehicle can reach 100km/h in as little as 7.5 seconds – enough to meet the demands of any driving scenario. But that is only half the story. Electric vehicles aren’t solely judged on their performance, but also their ability to travel further on a single charge of their batteries and minimise the time taken to recharge once the stored energy has been depleted. A metric that the el-Born excels in. With a real world range of up to 420km based on the WLTP drive cycle from its 62kWh energy dense battery pack respectively, the vehicle is ready to travel wherever the customer needs to. And with compatibility with up to 100kW DC supercharging, the battery can be returned from 0 to 80% in as little as 47 minutes. The vehicle also integrates an advanced thermal management system to maximise vehicle range in the most extreme of environmental conditions. The vehicle’s heat pump can reduce the electrical heating consumption, saving up to 60km in autonomy – useful in countries where temperatures can drop and occupants need to use climate control systems. Technology that delivers As our roads become increasingly congested, cars need to take some of the strain from the occupants. SEAT el-Born does just this, integrating the latest developments in autonomous functionality and connectivity to relieve some of the pressure of modern life. The SEAT el-Born benefits from autonomous level two systems, giving partial automation to the vehicle so it can control steering, acceleration and deceleration events. Add to this amongst other Intelligent Park Assist and the SEAT el-Born is a concept car that encapsulates the future of driving.

SEAT ARONA WINS SMALL SUV OF THE YEAR FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR AT WHAT CAR? AWARDS 2019

Milton Keynes, 23/01/19 – The SEAT Arona has celebrated its first full year of sales by winning Small SUV of the Year by What Car? judges at a ceremony in London last night. The Arona, which won the same award in 2018, with its 1.0 TSI 95 engine and in SE Technology specification, was praised by the panel of experts for its interior practicality, pricing, smooth ride and fun handling. Commenting on the decision to award victory to the Arona for the second year in a row, Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car? said: “It may be a small SUV, but the Arona has a large number of things going for it. Not only is it more practical than most rivals, but it's very well priced and feels grown-up to drive, with a settled, sophisticated ride and tidy handling.” Richard Harrison, Managing Director, SEAT UK, said: “It’s no surprise to us that Arona has scooped this accolade again. It has made waves since its launch at the beginning of 2018 and was a major factor in our record sales last year, proving that consumers love it just as much as the experts.” Arona was the car that launched easymove – SEAT’s simplified purchase model, now adopted throughout the entire SEAT range – so customers can buy the award-winning small SUV with ease. What Car?’s preferred specification, SE Technology, provides customers with a whole host of connectivity including rear parking sensors, SEAT’s Connectivity Pack Plus, which provides an 8-inch colour touchscreen with Media System Plus, proximity sensor and Sat Nav system with 3D mapping and voice recognition, wireless charger, two USB ports and AUX, and two SD card slots. The Arona also provides free metallic paint, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, Full-Link smartphone replication, double boot floor, 40/60 split folding rear seats air conditioning, cruise control, tiredness recognition system, and multi-collision braking system as standard. The Arona is available in four different engines and two powertrains – two petrol and two diesel engines, with either manual or DSG automatic gearboxes. What Car?’s recommended engine, the 1.0 TSI 95, is a petrol unit outputting 95 PS with 115g CO2 and 45.6-48.7mpg (combined) based on the WLTP guidelines.

CUPRA ATECA CROWNED INAUGURAL SPORTS SUV OF THE YEAR AT WHAT CAR? AWARDS 2019

Milton Keynes, 23/01/19 – The CUPRA Ateca SUV has won the inaugural Sports SUV of the Year category at the 2019 What Car? Awards at a ceremony in London last night. Judges commended the CUPRA Ateca for its unparalleled fun factor versus its more expensive rivals, costing just £35,900 OTR – thousands less than its rivals. It’s no surprise that the CUPRA Ateca is turning heads amongst industry experts, with its mixture of interior space and exceptional performance delivered by its 300PS engine, 4Drive system and 7-speed DSG gearbox.  The award arrives less than a year after CUPRA became a standalone brand with the intention of offering even greater performance and design flair for enthusiasts who also want a high level of sophistication and sportiness. Commenting on the decision to award the CUPRA Ateca as Sports SUV of the Year, Steve Huntingford, Editor, What Car? said: “CUPRA has managed to produce a car that’s every bit as fun to drive as more expensive rivals, despite undercutting them by thousands of pounds. In terms of smiles per mile, it's unsurpassed in the SUV market.” Richard Harrison, Managing Director, SEAT UK, said: “For our new brand to win an award from What Car? is a great achievement and testament to the incredible talent and hard work of everyone involved. We knew that with CUPRA Ateca we had a special car on our hands and it’s exciting to see that recognised by one of the industry’s leading publications.” The CUPRA Ateca arrived in the UK less than eight weeks ago and is the first model to be launched under the new CUPRA brand, delivering the highest performance of any SUV outside of premium manufacturers with 300PS and 400Nm of torque available from its 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine.  With a top speed of 153mph, the CUPRA Ateca can propel itself from 0-62mph in just 5.2 seconds. The new model boasts a high-level of standard specification, including metallic paint and CUPRA Care service and maintenance all included in the price. The Ateca features CUPRA exterior body styling, exclusive diamond cut alloy wheels, striking glossy black details and eye-catching new copper CUPRA logo and lettering. SEATS THREE SUVS, ON THE ROAD TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME

Martorell, 16/01/2019. - “The new SEAT Ateca plays a key role in our new brand strategy. The Ateca is kick-starting the largest product offensive in the history of SEAT.” These were the words of SEAT Executive Committee Chairman Luca de Meo during the launch of SEAT’s first SUV in 2016. Two and a half years later his intentions have been fulfilled and SEAT now has three models in its SUV range, all sharing the same DNA but with their own distinct personality. Today they are on the road together for the first time in the city where they were created. -Design created in Barcelona: this is the deciding factor for 65% of customers who purchase an SUV. In the case of the SEAT models, they all have a common origin - Barcelona. “All three could only have been created in this city”, according to SEAT design director Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. With the elegance, sportiness and love for detail as shared characteristics, each model has its own features. For example, the Arona boasts a “strong crossover character, with 68 possible colour combinations”, the Ateca is distinguished by its “elegant silhouette” while the Tarraco “conveys its character thanks to the design of its front end, which points to what future SEAT models will look like.” -Engines to suit all needs: with performance outputs ranging from the 95 hp of the Arona to the 190 hp of the Tarraco, the three SUVs offer a wide variety of engines to guarantee performance, efficiency and reliability. In addition, the Arona is the first model in its segment to offer a Compressed natural Gas (CNG) engine, while the Tarraco will benefit from a Plug-in Hybrid version. SEAT’s largest SUV is “a masterpiece in terms of functionality and versatility” assures SEAT Vice-president for R&D Dr. Matthias Rabe. -Safety, the highest priority: Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Assist, ACC adaptive cruise control, emergency braking function… These are just a few of the state of the art safety assistants that are built into SEAT’s SUVs and which show the brand’s commitment to prioritising safety and making driving easier. Furthermore, the Tarraco raises the bar even higher by including pedestrian and cyclist recognition systems. -Connected to the future: for 28% of people who buy a car, connectivity is a primary feature. SEAT is working intensively on offering the best solutions to respond to the growing digitalisation of our surroundings, and the three SUVs demonstrate this. On one hand with the Digital Cockpit and an 8 inch screen; and on the other, with Full Link as a core element. This system links a smartphone to the car via Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror Link to guarantee connectivity in a safe manner. -Sales success: 30% of buyers currently choose a car that offers an elevated driving position, such as an SUV. In the past five years, sales of this kind of mid-size vehicle have nearly doubled in Europe, and this upward trend is on the rise. Sales are expected to grow by 40% by 2025, reaching a total of 2.8 million units. In the case of SEAT, SUVs have been key in boosting company sales. One out of every three cars sold by the brand is an SUV and these figures will soon be joined by the Tarraco.SEAT is the only company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets cars in Spain. A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters in Martorell (Barcelona), exporting 80% of its vehicles, and is present in over 80 countries on all five continents.
